I knew the problem-free running of my 1.6 Maestro Vanden Plas wouldn't last long...

For the past few weeks, the car had been running faultlessly in all weathers and at all times of the day and I have been impressed. However after a 120 mile round-trip delivering Barney to John in Blackpool on Saturday evening, it appears the car has developed some issues.

The first time the car was started since that trip was on Monday afternoon and it had not been touched at all. Whilst on choke, the engine was very lumpy, there were clouds of blue smoke from the exhaust and these fumes were rather strong in smell. Because of this, the mixture/idle speed etc. were all adjusted so the car ran smoothly again.

However, the next day when I was leaving for University in the morning, it was very lumpy again on choke and juddering when I tried to drive. I managed the day's journeys as when warm, the car drove beautifully and slightly smoother than before (it was already good). Not pleased with it still running lumpy on choke, it was all adjusted again.

Then this morning as I was leaving for University again, it was still very lumpy on choke. Once again I managed when the engine had warmed up, but tonight starting from cold again, it was still lumpy - so once again it was all adjusted and the choke idle speed raised up to about 1,400 rpm.

Anyway that was this evening, so I expect it to be rather lumpy again when I go out to it tomorrow...

Just about fed up with this now - It has been superb (apart from slight build-ups of mayo) until the run to Blackpool and back at weekend. Surely this would've done it some good?!

Hi could be as above, but I would check the vacuum switch diaphram first.
