View Full Version : Clutch seems weird

Hi,

The clutch on my 1.3LX has been a bit odd over the last couple of days.

If I press the pedal right to the floor, then lift it, it first starts to bite about 1/5 of the way up, then nothing until the normal bite point at about 4/5 distance. Although I can feel the engine 'engage' at the 1/5 point, I don't get any power through until the 4/5 point.

Doesn't seem to do it all the time though. Bit hard to explain!

The car's on'y done 21k, so I don't think the clutch could be on the way out?

Cheers

Had exactly the same thing on my 1.3 clubman. It almost feels as if its jumped out of gear. it bites near the bottom then nothing & then bites again. I checked the clutch cable suspecting a frayed cable. It wasn't. I then took the gearbox off.....a relatively easy job, bout an hour and but a litlle grease on the gearbox input shaft. I assumed that it was sticking as the clutch was moving along it. This sorted the problem. Good luck let us know how u get on

My 1.6 S series Maestro has been doing this also - it happens randomly. I don't fancy taking the gearbox off it so hopefully it won't cause me any (more!) problems.

BTW my VP is a 1986 car with 65k on the clock.

Thanks for the replies, good to know it's not just me!

Not sure I'm up to taking the gearbox off though
