View Full Version : Exhaust Systems

I have started looking into how I am going to get over the issue of fitting an exhaust system to my van once the TD engine is in.

The other TD van I have, has had its exhaust bodged together, and appears in amongst all the joints to have a Montego rear pipe.

Is there an easy way to make up put on an exhaust on once the transpant has been done?

I can't find any listings on EPC for a TD van exhaust so I am seriously considering a custom system. I have approached one company, but they want it in Basingstoke to do it, and I can't really see me driving there without an exhaust on. Also, they expect you to have flashy tailpipes and make it roar when you accelerate.

I want the system to look identical to the standard exhaust setup, but in the TD pipe bore.

Any suggestions on who could make it, or how I could go about doing it with "standard" parts?

Cheers, Rich

Hi Rich,
It really depends on what you want to achieve on what budget.
Different exhaust manufacturers (Unipart/Timax/Bosal etc) usually produce there systems with a slightly different (we are taling mm here) bore size.

It really depends on how much of you exhisting van system is salvagable.
What you need is a TD (Monty/late Maestro) down pipe.
Then source the centre and rear sections for a 2.0 D Van.
BUT make sure the centre section is a similar bore (slightly smaller) diameter to the TD front pipe.

I have done a couple of TD vans. One I was lucky with and the TD downpipe was a good tight fit into the centre section (same manf. perhaps?)
But I have also had a large diameter front pipe (new) and a (reasonably small) centre section (used). The difference was between 4-6mm. This meant that the front pipe never really had a chance of closing down this gap and resulted in a slight blow. (which i put up with)
