:( :( :( I have fitted new steering rack gaiters, and on fitting them the oil warning light will not go out.:banghead: :banghead: :banghead: I have checked the wire that feeds the power to the switch which is fine. i have changed the oil warning switch and checked the oil pressure which all seems to be fine does anyone have any ideas to what it may be:confused:

You haven't inadvertantly knocked the lead of the oil pressure switch. It could be dangling and shorting to ground causing the light to come on?
Just a idea maybe

This happened on a Montego 2.0 thatI used to have. Try squeezing the spade terminal that goes onto the oil pressure sensor with pliers to make it grip the lug more positively (ie: remove, squeeze put back on). They tend to get loose over time.

As Simon says. check you have not knocked anything off and check the spades for tightness. Also, make sure the lugs are clean. Is the new switch a brand new one or from a scrappy? ether way it could still be faluty, even if it's brand new.

If it worked before the gaiter transplant, it's got to be electrical. One problem I have had before is where the wire inner breaks, and the spade is held on by just the insulation.

yes, similar to the stepper motor wiring, this wire can run close to the hot exhaust system, it overheats, the wire goes brittle and breaks internally somewhere in the last 2 feet or so before the oil switch. If all else fails re-wire that section.
