What is the running problem, can it be fixed by me or does it need a garage?

bump
this is a good clean car as anybody whos seen it will know, there is just the one problem with it that its overfueling. im sure it can be easily fixed by those who know what their doing.
or has the arse fallen out of the maestro/montego market? lol
ive had offers from people who want it for short circuit racing, but i dont want it to see that fate. mind you, seeing that montego limo race afew weeks ago was a bit painful.....

its a bargain at 1500
£1500 for an H-reg MG Maestro is no bargain. You could argue that with its exceptionally-low mileage and (I'm assuming) a condition which reflects this mileage that £1500 is a very fair price - I'd probably agree - but bargain? I don't think so! Also, the one-and-only picture you've shown to us with what seems like stone-chipped faded paintwork (stonechips could be dirt) hardly sells it to interested punters. You need to post more photos from different angles so punters can assess it's condition.
Not being funny mate but if you're seriously expecting to get £1500 for a 16 year old Maestro then you're going to have to put some effort in and come out with your guns blazing. It's no good posting one picture of an unkempt-looking car with a "slight running problem" and expecting people to fork out £1.5k for it. It's just not going to happen. You want top whack for it, put the effort in. Sorry if that seems harsh. I recon your car is worth what you're asking but you're gonna have to learn to actually sell it!
EDIT: Neither this thread nor your MGM advert states the lengths of its t&t...

...got something to hide, have you? You're never going to generate any interest, yet alone a sale, if you make it hard to find out all about what you are selling.

Savage, but true. As John says, you need to come out all guns blazing to sell something like this - Not just expect people to ask questions.
Write up a good, lengthy advert for it and post in the Classifieds and forum. People usually snap up the MG's in no time.

if someonre is interested in the car its not rocket science to think 'hm, i think ill find out abit more about this car' its not unusual to see ads with 'for sale, contact 01########## for details is it? if you are not interested in the car then fine, but dont try and put anyone else off for christs sake! And what on earth do you think im trying to hide? the body in the boot? the anthrax in the glovebox? the car is advertised else where and ive had interest in it, so its all good, if you still think im trying to hide anything you are more that welcome to read any emails ive sent to the people who are interested, nothing is being hidden.
do i sound pissed off? not at all, just dissapointed. I do think that MGDavid is a bit of a knob tho, never going to generate any interest? WRONG! No sale? its close. And have i got something to hide? if i was selling a car that was pugged up and bodged up then you might have something to worry about, its clear to see by others reply to your post that they may well think the same as i do:rolleyes:
as i say, its now advertised else where as some people on here seem intent on turning this sale into a load of bollox, i could say its running perfectly and get people to look at it on false pretences, but i didnt did i? Ill tell anyone whose interested anything they need to know. Goodbye! :p

IF YOU WANT PEOPLE TO SHOW INTEREST...

General condition
Last time serviced
Known faults
...get the picture??
People are NOT going to chase YOU, it's YOUR car that frankly you are wanting absolute top dollar for so SELL IT TO US!!!!!!!

Bang on.
Nobody asking top dollar for their car just says "My car is for sale, ask me some questions about it." It just creates NO motivation to actually want to own the car. Whats more, there are *very few* people who are gong to spend over £1,000 for ANY Maestro so as John says, you need to really push the boat out and SELL IT to us.
Believe me - I've seen the adverts John has written in the past and he does know what he is doing.

It's a shame this thread has turned a bit nasty.
I well remember seeing this car in 2005 and it was a cracker, low mileage and in good condition.
A genuine car, that should have sold quickly.
The fact it hasn't sold is probably because 1. It has a slight running problem
2. It has been modified
3. Price is top of its band.
Sort out it's niggles, return it to original spec and advertise it again Steve and I'm sure it will sell fast.
