Unless you have a very late Maestro with the late Montego style dash, it is relatively straightforward using MG Montego Turbo or Montego VDP parts (saloon or estate in the case of the latter). You will need the 2 rear electric window regulators, the 5 switch control unit that fits below the radio in the dash (the 5th switch is an isolator switch for the rear window controls, the rear door switches, the rear door handle escutcheon plates and all of the additional wiring from one of these cars. A bonus is that the front elec. window plug just connects in place in the new 5 switch control box, but the rest of the wiring needs to be added and an extra fused position on the fusebox must be added. The wiring is also found on Montego Mayfair 2.0i's, even though they have wind up back windows. To do the job properly, you'll need to remove the dash and, well most of the interior really. You will need to alter the rear door cards to allow the Montego rear door latch escutcheon to fix into place, and you'll have to saw off the semi circular protrusion of the rear door ashtray, leaving the front of it superglued into place as a dummy cover, the reason for that is because the electric rear window mechanism extends behind the hole where the ashtray is meant to swivel into.
Its a great modification especially if, like me, you ever carry meddling kids in the back. A quick flick of the isolator switch renders the rear window switches useless!

Any idea how I'd go about doing the installation in my car (should I be bothered to do it in the near future)?

Hi onza100,

If you have a montego centre console in you Maestro like me there is a easier way, if not the best way to do it.

How often do you as a driver open your rear windows? once a year? never? If your like me and leave it to you rear passengers then just put the switchs in the rear pods of the montego cnetre console and wire up to that. If you need to open/close them then its easy to reach to them form the drivesr seat. Its not a proper way to it, but so much easier.

On my last MG i had the 5 switch box with all the wring to that as previoulsy mentioned, by Simon, except i had the rear passenger switchs in the montego centre console as previouly mentioned. You can have control of all windows and passengers just lean down to the centre console, a lot easier then adding those poxy switch mounts. Of caouse you have to add a montego centre console, but thats easier and there a lot nicer them Maestro ones. If like me you switch to a montego dash inserts then you will need 2 no montego 2 window control units, one for the front one for the rear. Get the rear winder mechanism, diconnect the front control box and taake the wires from the front winders to the fron montrgo control box and from switchs. With a spur from the existing wires connect up the rear winders to the seocnd montego switch box which conviently sits ubnder passager seat. my old car had front passenger windows int montego centre console front slots, then a blank and my elctric sunroof switch (it sucks bigtime reaching for the roof) and then the rear controls at the back. It works real nice, just the use of passengers control sby driver to open/close rear windows, but i can live with that. Oh, yeah i've got the gear just need to add to current motor, that would be on my list.
