Would anyone be interested in a 1984 Austin Montego 1300 restoration project? Namely mine? It requires attention to the bodywork that I simply can not afford at the moment, and other things need to take priority.

If you have lusted after this unusual variant in its earliest form then now may be your chance, if you don’t mind the work to complete it.

The car has many good points. It had a brand new 1275cc A+ engine last year which has now covered 3,500 miles (Odometer shows 84,000 in total). The bounty blue interior is in good condition, and now features blue HL specification seats, a tachometer, cigarette lighter and clock. New sills were fitted to both sides of the car last year, and the rest of the underside is free from corrosion. All four doors, bonnet, bootlid and (new) wings are free from corrosion. Bumpers uncracked.

The areas where the car still requires attention is to the off side rear quarter. Apart from a new wheel arch, it would benefit from a new fuel filler pocket and inner arch (inner arch currently holed). Luckily I have an entire off side rear quarter which would solve all these problems and would come with the car. The near side rear requires a new wheel arch to repair the last one (previously reapired many years ago). Apart from a full respray and an easy recovering of the headlining the car is ready to go. Indeed, it still is, it has an MOT until October.

If anyone is interested in giving it a home and continuing the repairs, please get in touch. Sensible offers please considering the cars all round condition. If no one is interested, I will try to keep hold of it as I would hate to see it broken up. It is a superb car and will motor on for many years to come.

Tony, I spy with my little eye.... the person that managed to buy the MG Estate before me!!! :)

When I tryed to buy the MG Montego Estate off of its lady owner some years ago for a ridulously low price it had already been sold!! :(

it sits un-used for years then all the buyers come at once,:  its slowly being rebuilt, although its on hold at the moment as the family next door are not happy living next door to a garage.
