View Full Version : MOT Problems...

Dropped the car off at the MOT station this morning only to have a phone call this lunch time asking about the cars history. I told him about how they were assembled and where - and it turns out he is unsure how to pass the emmissions part of the test as it has to pass 1997/98 standards because that is the year it was built. Can anyone shed some light on this and how other Ledbury cars pass the MOT test? He told me he is phoning his local contact for the Department of Transport to find out more...

Bit of an update - aparently - i should have a letter from the manufacturer to present at MOT time to exempt the car from 1997/98 emmissions standards. Without this - i cant get an MOT!

On the other hand - i'm told the car is in tip-top condition and should pass no problem!

Bloody brilliant!

Oooops. As long as it's in tip top condition though....

What about your test Rich?

Take a look at the registration document. Apparently the V5 documents of Maestros sold at Ledbury show them as class V (minibus!) and they're subject to emmission limits of 3.5%CO and 0.12%HC (1200ppm). The cars should be submitted for a "basic non-cat" test. There was a contact at the vehicle inspectorate if you're really having trouble at the test centre - other owners have had problems because there was some confusion over the final cars.

Thanks for that Jonathan, havent yet got the V5 back, but i will take a look when i get it. It should be in the post in the next few days.

I presume today he put it through the test that any other car of the same age would have to pass. I will get back to him with this new information and see what he says...

Does anyone have the contact details of someone i can speak to at Ledbury regarding these MoT emissions? I am a bit stuck as to what to do next really - so any help would be great!

I need to get this sorted soon as i have to suffer the indignity of driving a Peugeot 306 Diesel while my lovely Maestro sits on the drive doing nothing!

I think this is the right number for Ledbury (Parkway Service Station)

01531 632320

It's usually 636252, maybe 632320 is another department?

Cheers, Jonathan.

I've been talking to Ledbury in the past few days about fuel tanks, but I've lost the Post-it note with their number and fished that one out off EYP :banghead:

Wasn't there a contact name and number for a lady at the Vehicle Inspectorate, who could help with this very problem, in an edition of Monstro a couple of years ago? I've yet to unpack my car mags after the recent house move, so cannot help with this at the mo, but mebbe someone else can dig this info out?

The car is 'type-approved', so the info *must* exist 'somewhere'...

A Peugeot 306 Diesel ain't *that* bad for now, is it? Could be an awful lot worse...

Its like a full upper-body workout just to turn the corner - or perhaps i have just been spoilt by power steering!

I'll try the garage at Ledbury - but the contact at the Vehicle Inspectorate sounds like its worth a call - as i dont want to have to go through this every year...

Most of my personal copies of Monstro (the only ones I have) mysteriously disappeared at the BL Rally so I can't help with the number I'm afraid. Anyone got it?

GRRRRRR!!!!!

This problem just doesnt seem to get ANY better!!!

Been back to the garage with my V5 showing it is a Kit car - but still wont entertain giving it an MoT. Been to my Local Rover Dealer - where i was given the phone number for the Ministry of Transport.

The Ministry are trying to fob me off with a right load of Cr*p - and are acting totally cluesless about the whole thing refusing to believe me about why my car is an R-Reg.

Was told they will be phoning my local garage - so now i am just waiting to see what they come back with...

:shoot: >MoT<

Ring the Vehicle Inspectorate, they provide the info for the MoT and also Type Approval... no idea what the phone number is, but someone there will sort this out. Try their website as well, but it takes a lot of ploughing through and isn't particularly user-friendly, a phone call will be quicker...

Perhaps later on you could transfer a H plate for example - that'll sort it out

Well, alot of phoneing about - i finally have an MoT on the car! Took it down this afternoon to a very appologetic MoT tester - and had it all written up there and then!

So thats that for another year!

Thaks for all the advice everyone.

Let's see what happens when R514 RVJ goes in later this year....

Another old topic dragged up from the depths then, Steve?

:)

MoT is quite easy when you know how, and take it to a half decent testing station which knows their stuff. Tell them its a kit car beforehand (show V5 if they dont believe you) which exempts it from emissions testing.
