View Full Version : Is this repairable?

Hi All,
I've been meaning to write this thread for a while. I have sad news about my little baby, my E reg Efi. Some :censored: banged into the front of my car, denting the drivers-side wing and ripping off my tickford front bumper. When I contacted my insurance, they told me they would write the car off ( because it's un-economical to repair). By going through this blokes insurance, I could have a hire car, and an engineer will inspect the damage and give me a cash amount to repair it myself. Obviously this is the option I took!!!
The engineer came and went, and I recieved a phonecall the other day to explain I have been awarded 500 pounds. I am just waiting for this to be sent to me.
Here's my question - does anyone know how I can get hold of an MG front wing? My research tells my the MG version is different to the standard 1.3 version. My Rover/MG dealership say they are no longer available. As for the bumper, I know they are as rare as hens teeth, but I might be able to get it repaired instead of replacing it with a normal one.
Any thoughts on this?
PS I have tried to post some pics to show the damage. People of a nervous disposition should not click this link...

There are two basic types of front wing for the Maestro. Those for Steel-bumpered Maestros (Not necessarily 1.3's) and those for Plastic-bumpered Maestros. Both these types are available with or without side repeater holes. Obviously you require a Plastic bumper wing with repeater holes. You may find one at a good one at a scrapyard, or a member here may have one spare. Your car is easy enough to repair, even if you can not find a replacement Tickford front bumper staright away. A replacement wing and plastic bumper will see it back on the road.

I dread to think where a grinder, welder and Black aerosol paint comes in repairing a Red car with damaged bolt on panels...

The bumper can be repaired and front wings are always on Ebay new or 2nd hand. Wings were still available from MGRover at a price...

I've just rang up my local stockist and they quoted me £40.40 for one! I'm in two minds whether to repair my car or sell it as spares/repairs!

For a new wing? I'd snatch their hands off. Second hand ones are also fairly easy to get hold of. I *may* have a set of black ones for sale in the near future if they don't go with the MG I'm selling. *plug*
The damage to your car is only bolt on parts from what I can see. Definitely an easy fix and not that expensive. If you spend say £50 in fixing the car you would lose alot more than that than if you sold it on for spares/repairs.
I'll keep you posted about the front wings - if they are available after the MG has gone I could perhaps meet you somewhere and let you have it, so to speak, for the petrol money?

Contact Hadrain direct via their website. I bought a load of panels from them recntly, though not a wing, and they were very cheap and I suspect they are having a clearout of slow-moving stuff (although once they are on my MG Maestro they will not be moving slowly!)
The woman I dealt with was very friendly and the delivery cost was also really cheap. £12 for a box the size of my front door and about six times deeper.
Unbelievable that you are considering scrapping that lovely looking EFi because you need a new wing and bumper. Fix it up yourself - if I can do it, you can!
As for grinding and welding - when I have fitted bumpers and wings to my Maestros, they were held on with a few bolts and some plastic clips ;)

I've taken the decision to fix my baby back up again. I bought the front wing on Saturday, i picked it up this morning :-). I'll fit it later today, then it goes to the garage for a spray and they'll repair/spray the bumper.
Thanks for all your help, advise and encouragement on this! The countdown begins until the Maestro rises from the ashes once again! I cant wait!!!!!!!

Good call, neither are hard to fit.
It will be easier for them to spray the wing and the bumper off the car.
Also is it me or is that a replica turbo bumper?
