I thought I'd keep you up to date with my second Maestro. While I've been amassing parts for the refurbishment of F153, I've also been preparing my other car for its respray.
Take a look at the new Maestro Orientated Pictures on my website (http://pages.zoom.co.uk/wonkeydonkey) and you'll see that it's back to bare metal and ready for spraying. I've also removed the interior lights, battery and sub-frame. I hope it's not doing too much damage just sitting on the bottom of the bodyshell!
I've got cans of White Diamond, as well as white primer and lacquer and am going to do the whole thing by hand sometime soon.
As always, I'll keep you updated :)

Maybe we should put in a bulk order for white diamond :)

you nearly fooled me!! I've just noticed it's a toy bodyshell stripped down!! That reminds me, I've got to get mine back to its original champagne beige colour.

I just got a Corgi Maestro 1600 too. It's yellow, few chips on it.
Should I strip it down and paint it a proper colour?
P.S: While I'm doing that, I've tried the lights with AAA batteries, but they're not working. The bulbs seem ok though..

Yeah, I was just fooling around... The only problem I can see is that the primer I'm using is not for the kind of metal the model bodyshell is made of. I'm worried that the paint will just peel off.
Ho hum - I'll find out the hard way I guess.
The other thing that I'm going to do is paint the black bits the right colour and also make some door mirrors from something, somehow.
GGT - you say that the lights aren't working - if you're sure that the bulbs+batteries are ok (test with paper clips, or multimeter if you're hard enough) then it's got to be the switches (operated by the axles) that are at fault. It's a disassembly job if this is the case so you might as well respray then if you're thinking of doing it. One of the switches on my model had to be plasticwelded back together - not a difficult job but leave the plastic weld for a couple of days to go off before operating the switch. Oh, and you have to drilll the rivets out of the bottom of the model to separate the bodyshell.
Btw, Nitromoors (sp?) worked a treat at stripping off all the old paint.

My corgi model is mint condition in yellow, but the lights dont work in that, switches are suspect as the bulbs/batteries are fine. I really dont want to drill the rivits out to mend it and risk damagind its super condition though!

P.S, I realised that was a toy shell too, but it did get me thinking for a bit!
BTW, where did you get from, and how much was the new gerbox, asuuming 5 speed VW box??

I got my new gearbox from eBay and it's actually the wrong one - it's a VW 5 speed for the 1.3 engine. I've thought about it and will not be fitting it to my car.
It cost me around £70 so if you want it you can have it for about that much! If not, I'll hold on to it and may convert it to a 1.6 gearbox later on....

Might be possibly be interested in the gearbox if it is a 5 speed one.

While on the subject of respraying model Maestros, I bought a pewter MG Maestro Turbo from the MGCC FWD Register. They've had 505 made and each one comes with a numbered certificate. Obviously I bought no 502 :)
Did anyone see it on the bonnet of my car at MG Saloon Day in July? I've turned it into an exact replica of the real No. 502, i.e.: sprayed it red and picked out the windows, wheels, tyres, exhaust, black door-surrounds and pillars etc.
If you've got a Maestro Turbo (or even if you haven't) I can highly recommend buying one and doing this: very satisfying and gets lots of attention at classic car/MG shows.
Not just saying this because I'm on the FWD committee, honest :)

I don't reckon the paint would peel off, as long as the metal is clean. Simply wash the shell in detergent, rinse, and leave to dry overnight. Another thing that would help would be to warm the shell and the paint before spraying. Some modellers even go as far as to put the paint in a saucepan full of water and put on a very low heat on a hob, but I reckon that keeping the paint at room temperature for a few hours before spraying will do. Then, just spray the model body shell as you would spray the real thing!:D

Great - thanks for that advice, Alan - I'll hopefully be spraying it soon. At the moment F153 is taking up a lot of time with the engine/suspension renewal so it may have to wait for a while!

F153JUE, do you still have that Gearbox, or did you manage to convert it? I only ask, as if its still on offer, can you send me a message or an e-mail, rlodge@maestro.org.uk and maybe we can do a deal?
Many thanks, Rich

I will be making a 1:87 scale maestro van (eventually). I have been following this project on http://www.87thscale.info for a resin model for a Volvo S60, and when it's complete, I'll use the same method for a Maestro.:D

Ok, you've seen my 1:32 Corgi MG Maestro 1600, so here is my 1:18 scale one I'm trying to get one with myself...
P.S: Should I go for the metal bumper design? (Should be a lot easier)
