Hi!

Took my MG Maestro in to a quote on Saturday for some rust. Does anyone have experience on having these bits done and an approximate price?

-Rust round screen (not a lot, and it doesn't reach the glass)

-Sills x 2 (average amount - are they worth patching up or replacing?)

-1 wheel arch (had this done before, but it looks like it's coming off. The garage would have to strip the paint back to see, but he reckons it might be riveted on and tidied up. Alternitavely might be rust)

-Rust on boot surround (the panel that's attached to the side of the car)

- a key scratch on the door :censored: and a stone chip on a different door

Total: £800+VAT which is rather a lot. He reckons the re-spraying is £250 per panel and the rust round the screen will be touched up rather than re-sprayed.

The garage I went to is recommended by the MG Owner's Club. Whilst I'm sure he'll do a good job, I wonder if he's inflated his prices somewhat...

Also, does anyone have experience of changing the seal round the windscreen? Is it easy?

-Rust round screen (not a lot, and it doesn't reach the glass)

Difficult to quote on, as it could be more serious than surface rust, meaning two solutions, taking the screen out and welding new metal in, or grinding back to bare metal and treating with rust killer before the final prep and spraying.

-Sills x 2 (average amount - are they worth patching up or replacing?)

Can be effectivly patched using sill sections. Often its only the back that goes. For patching your looking at about £50 quid a side and then finishing and undersealing.

-1 wheel arch (had this done before, but it looks like it's coming off. The garage would have to strip the paint back to see, but he reckons it might be riveted on and tidied up. Alternitavely might be rust)

As above, would have to be stripped back and a reapir or replace the arch. Usually about £100 a side for repairs to inner arch, fitting new arch, blending in, painting and rust proofing.

Prob just easier to repair and treat for rust on that boot surround and £50-100 per panel for straightforward respray work as a rough rule .

In reality about £5-700 quids worth inclusive.

The screen rubber can only be replaced with the screen, as its fitted to the screen then bonded in with it.

Sounds like I need another quote, then!
