I would have thought BP would have been OK. The last few times I've filled up at Sainsburys and the car is running very half heartedly :( so I made a mental note to put in BP or Esso next time. Saving 2p isn't worth it as I'm sure I get fewer MPG with supermarket petrol.

I fill up with Shell Premium Unleaded, as there's a Shell filling station on one of my regular runs. I also swear by Shell Optimax when it's just past payday :o .

Supermarket fuel is traditionally seen as second best... but it all seems to come from the same refineries - and many people see, for example, Shell fuel lorries topping up Asda filling stations...

I am 100% sure that the BP fuel will be fine - I've found that Shell Optimax can vary from fill up to fill up, as can BP Ultimate (the high octane stuff, that is) but when I am in 'cheapo mode' I have been known to fill up with Asda Unleaded when I go shopping, which seems perfectly OK (as does Tesco's Unleaded).

Having said all this, Shell garages in the Bolton area were charging 93.9p/l for Unleaded, 96.9p/l for Diesel and 99.9p/l for Optimax today... Asda in Bolton (and Radcliffe, Bury) want 94.9p/l for Unleaded and the local garages in Bury an Bolton all want 96.9p/l for Unleaded... Shell in Bolton were charging 94.9p/l (Unleaded) last week, so it's good to see prices going down  .

Possibly more worryingly, I filled up Fleagle at Shell, Crompton Way, in Bolton yesterday - and signed the receipt! In these days of 'chip and pin' this seemed somewhat odd, and I was assured this was a technical fault - reports elsewhere on the internet talk of cloning of cards at a few Shell stations :horror: ! Has to be said, in these enlightened time of Blair's police state, Cash Is King... ;)

I swear by Morrisons' fuel to be quite honest! Whenever I fill up at Esso (the only other local garage) the car feels a lot more lumpy. Funnily enough my Grandad always had problems with Esso fuel in his Wolseleys.

Cash Is King... Couldn't agree more, Rich :D Both the Esso station on my road and the one near college still have 'receipt and pen' as opposed to 'chip and pin'!
