Hi, as you may have read before the TD Van has sprung a leak from the Injector pump. As it soon to be ready to return to the road, I need to get it sorted. I can send the pump away to be re-conditioned but this will take to long at the moment and be to costly at present. My plan therefore is to swop the pump from the TD engine I removed last weekend and fit it to the vans engine.

The query is, as I do not have the adaptor to check the pump timing, would I be correct in assuming that if I locked the timing on both engines, locked the pump timing by loosening the bolt on the front of the pump, removing the washer and then locking the timing by tightening that bolt. Removing the pump and swoping it to the new engine, the timing settings would remain unchanged and the pump would function as it did before on the other engine?

Cheers, Rich

Hi, Rich, The engine will run ok if you do this but the timing will not be exactly set. This is because the final pump timing setting is very accurate and eliminates any differences in things such as belt tension and machining tolerances of all the componanants involved right up to the final delivery of the fuel. This ensures that the injector injects at the exact crankshaft degree btdc.
