Good Morning
I own A787XOP who is a 1984 Maestro 1.3. I she has the infamous no idling problem, me thinks that a manual choke conversion might be the best long term option. how easy is this job.
Cheers

I would think this is quite straight forward. . . its a cable at the end of the day..
Does your car have electric mirrors.. because the manual lever , goes where the wing mirror control goes.. ?

Graham, firstly it's a 1.3L and secondly it's a 1984 car so is a MKI.
LS, I would go with the manual choke option myself and presume it would be quite easy. I'm sure others will come along with more info about repairing the Autochoke or converting it to manual.
Good luck with it.

Hi, if the engine does not idle when hot or cold, then just fitting a manual choke conversion would not be gauranteed to fix the whole problem. If it just won't idle when cold then converting the choke will probably do the job but personally I prefer to repair the auto choke.
You should try give a little more info on the symptoms, but for some initial checks check for vacuum leaks. check the ORFCO valve is not stuck open. check the vacuum switch diaphram is not split same goes for the distributor vacuum unit diaphram.
Regards gary :)
