Hi there - it's my first post.
I've a lovely C reg 1.3L Maestro in original condition and just 31000 on the clock. I should get some photos posted. Anyway the car has been completely reliable since the day I took over ownership but the struts aren't doing a good job of holding up the tailgate. I'd like to get this fixed before it does someone a real mischief. Any advice either for sourcing replacement struts or can they be repaired in any way?

Watch this space... The MMOC is having tail gate struts reproduced - Maria will come along shortly with an update on the status.

I had heard that the MMOC had ceased any thought of "reproduction" of NLA items ?.
As you're post states differently, has there been any progress in getting the diff /engine mountings for the 2.0 made that Tony Hague was trying to arrange????
Mal.

It’s very much full steam ahead getting some parts made that are NLA, but progress can be very painful slow, various NLA parts are being chased but until we can guarantee production we cannot announce anything.
Its one of the many jobs we do behind the scenes...

I can think of far more important things than tailgate struts which will be expensive and a very slow seller, plenty of other cars could be used as a source where as bodypanels, big difference there and far more time and money should be invested in this area if the club is to continue as a credible source for keeping our cars on the road.

Thanks for the feedback Gareth.
The Club doesn’t rush into ventures like this, we have to plan such things carefully, after all we have the interests of our members at heart and it is them we are working for. Tailgate struts are a useful item to offer to members, they are quite often requested. Hence, the Club has been working on being able to offer them to members.
As I am sure you know, diving in to offer an extensive range of large expensive items like body panels - or even complete shells like you tried yourself - is not always the way to go. I am sure these items will come in time as the work of the Club progresses.

Not all bodypanels are large - look at the petrol pocket situation for example.
And here's one my Dad made earlier, as you know they are NLA and therefore very important to have some sort of replacement, so he made one from glassfibre which can be bonded into the quarter panel once the old rusty one has been chopped away. It's not structual and you would never tell the difference. Here is a pre-production pocket, available soon.

Thanks for all the replies - I did have it in the back of my mind that tailgate struts can be 're-gassed' but no one's mentioned that as an option so presumably not?

They can indeed be regassed but it's not a 100% reliable process and it was well over a tenner each (if memory serves). People used to advertise in the back of Practical Classics but I am not sure if they do that nowadays? Try having a look in magazines of the 'classic cars' genre.
If the process isn't successful then at least the customer isn't charged for it.

Any chance of getting some Diesel throttle cables made? These are now NLA and I have been unable to source a new one unles anyone knows of anywhere?
