View Full Version : Vacuum line

G'day,
I have an 88 Montego turbo and have no idea where to connect the vacuum line from the boost guage.
I did a search by the way but couldn't find anything - the reason I'm wanting a boost guage is because I wish to increase the psi (with a bleed valve, between the actuator and comp outlet) and obviously need to know how much I'm producing :)

I tried one place, just after the carby, however this didn't produce positive boost, only a slightly worrying fluctuating vacuum (with increase in rpm)

Any help is very much appreciated, cheers

also just a bit of a forewarning, I can't phone any numbers (of people who may know) as I'm in Perth Australia :banghead:

Thanks fellas!

Try putting a T-piece on the actuator sensor line. I wouldn't reccommend using a bleed valve - it can drop the pressure to the fuel pressure regulator, causing leaning out under boost. Not good!

hey, cheers Mat
I found the one - the line which I thought would be it actually was, but the engine wasn't under load when in neutral so wasn't creating the boost

It's all good with the leaning, an air/fuel interceptor is going to sort that out

In front on the carb is a vacuum line, T into this but make sure the lines are secure. If it pops off, not only will you lose a bit of boost and the reading but the ECU will not sense boost and the engine will ping quite badly.

With regards to bleed valves, they are fine if a seperate line is used on these cars, but if shared forget it, pressure will be bled and you'll get at best a minor misfire and some backfiring, and at worse a melted engine! I know of a very effective boost controller very cheap over here, i can get you some contact details, prices between £25-£35. Send me a personal message or email and i'll pass the info on.

Cheers GK for that, yeah that's the one I used

Cheers for the offer of contact, but we have a REALLY vast range of both Japanese items and Australian pieces so it's a bit hard to miss, also electronic boost controllers start from approx 100 pounds over here - I used to have one on my last car; even though it's a single solenoid it still did a really good job ... may just save for that - at least I won't have spiking and boost cut (if montegos have boost cuts??)
