The top drivers side corner of the outer rubber windscreen seal is coming adrift. The rubber is so hard that it won't go back even with a hammer. The seal will probably peel off all round easily enough. Is it just a question of using some gunk to stick a new seal back in? It looks as though the bonding holds the screen to the car and not the screen to the outer seal. If it was bonded to the outer seal then its a rubbish bond, only 3-4 years ago,

The "seal" is purely decorative and is pushed into the windscreen sealant that bonds the screen direct to the body. Seals can come adrift and no amount of pushing will put them back. Please don't use a hammer...You should go to Autoglass, who will rebond the seal in for you. They can even supply new ones. When a screen is replaced, the seal is cut out. If too much of the bonding lip is cut away, the seal won't adhere properly in the sealant.

RAC Auto Windscreens supplied and fitted a new 'seal' when they fitted a new windscreen to my Monty 3 years ago, and it looks fine :) . It was an Insurance job but I would expect them to be able to do this for a few quid.

I think this "old seal goes hard and lifts" is one of those 'they all do that' things...

Regret the fitters I've tried, incl Autoglass, caution me that the screen may have to come out, and that the removal may break it. One suggested the seal could be softened enough to push back by "Warming it up"?! Does anyone know what with please?
Although it is decorative it looks Orrible and some joker may pull the whole thing off one night...........

Hot water from a kettle? Careful if you've got any windscreen chips though. Or a hairdryer might be better as it won't get the seal wet and you'll be able to inject some black silicone.

Hi Jack

Another red maestro diesel clubman, though I assume this is nothing to do with windscreen seals coming adrift in their 13th year. I dont know if its because its slightly warmer but Ive managed to push the seal back in for now. I think I have some black silicon somewhere but keeping the seal in place while it sets will be fun. Its not exactly something you can rest a weight on or bang a nail through..........a 12 inch g-clamp?
