I have a 1989 G Maestro and I would like help to remove the steering wheel. I had hopes that removing the centre bolt the wheel would pull straight off but this is not the case. Do I need a steering wheel puller or have I missed something.

They can be a touch tight, for good reason! Mark the relationship between column and wheel centre with a marker or similar, remove the centre bolt, then screw it back on a couple of turns. With your palms uppermost at 3 o'clock, knock/bang the wheel upwards repeatedly with your palms and it should loosen. Replacing the bolt a couple of turns will prevent it flying off and hurting you.

Thanks for the reply and advice. I did try your method before I ask for help. I will have another go later. (This time with the bolt in half way for safety)

If you still can't get it off using this method (I couldn't on mine) then it's a lot easier to remove the bolt attaching the column to the intermediate shaft (down in the footwell near the pedals) and then take the entire column out of the outer column bit. You end up with the steering wheel and just the column and can then take this over to the bench and hold the column in the vice (use rags to prevent marking it) and hammer onto the metal bit in the middle of the steering wheel.
It can be a little fiddly getting the column back into thew intermediate shaft but it's not too bad if you remember to line it up at the right angle.
Good Luck!

I had the same trouble getting mine of my Monty. I sprayed around the bolt with my trusty can of WD40, left it for about half an hour to soak in and with a bit of whacking form behind and some pulling and twisting it came off.

Thanks for all your help. I removed the bolt from the column and removed the wheel from the column on the bench.
