Is £109.36 expensive to have an exhaust downpipe (front section) fitted to an MG Maestro? It's too late as it's done now, but it does sound rather a lot!

Owch! I had a whole system fitted to an Escort van I once owned which cost more or less the same. Mind you, it depends on what particular type of MG it is. I should imagine a 1600 R series for example would be hard to get parts for. Still, it's hard to say from my point of view.:(

Hmmm, I've just had a full system on my Maestro 1.6 done and that was £98 all in. Mind you the back box is rubbish and is scheduled for return to have a proper one put on. The last time I had it done was in early 1999, a full Timax system and that was £64 all in. The garage who did it last time quoted well over £100 this time which is why they didn't get my business...

For the front pipe on an MG Maestro, these are the MG Rover part numbers...
1.6: GEX 11010 (same as all manual cars with 1.6 engine)
2.0: GEX 12028

Cross refer with the relevant Timax, Bosal, Arvin, Tesh or Tubex part number.

Did you have a performance part or a stainless steel item fitted by any chance.

Update on the exhaust. The £109 was quoted over the phone. When I got there, I found he'd snapped the end off my anti-roll bar trying to get it off to fit the exhaust (monkey). Still, though, even without that it would have been £30 more than KwikFit (I called to ask) so I'll be going there next time. However, I wonder how they would have coped with the broken anti-roll bar if they'd snapped it to...!

Kwik Fit? You'll be getting a lot of correspondance then. I occasionally get letters from them asking if I would like to change my insurance to theirs. Funny thing is though, I went in there six years ago just to get a new spare tyre fitted!
