Converting engine management system

On the early maestros ie 1983 model with engine management system.The car is idling very high ie 3000 RPM's. I can't get the idle speed down. What could be the problem? Also what would I need to change to remove the engine management system. Is it just the carburettor or distributor or both to put it back to a basic engine with choke etc. Any help appreciated.

Hi, Does the temp guage read correctly, if it does not get much above cold you have a coolant temp sensor or wiring fault.

Is it a 1300?

I think they had an automatic choke which could be staying on.
