Same problem, different car... My heater (blower) just stopped working this afternoon. Still produces heat, though. Anyone got any ideas? Don't like driving cars without heaters...! It is a Mk1 dashboard/heater arrangement, also, so access isn't brilliant...

Wouldn't that mean it would only work on setting 3? I could deal with that, but it isn't blowing at all...!

i know its abummer but the dash has to come out if you want to find the problem the slider control for the heater is mounted on the back of the box and will be all corroded up you should give it a good clean and then try it before you remount the dash and if it works ok smear vasline on the contacts it helps to stop them corroding up again and it should take about a day and a half to do i would think

A common problem with the heater fan and one I've come across three times is the brushes in the fan motor. The wire from one or other gets caught on the motor frame stopping contact with the "armature" I think it's called. Once you see this on the bench the problem/solution is obvious, unfortunately you have to get the heater unit out and obviously the dash. Once out the heater unit then has to be split to get access to the fan motor, problems can occur once you disturb the heater matrix, the pipes might (will) be corroded and the matrix it's self might have a leak. If things go well it could be done in a day, but a sensible precaution I've found is to buy a complete heater unit, strip it, check the fan motor clean everything, reassemble and then take the dash out and swop the heater units over.Having done this a few times I recommend the swop procedure, be prepared as the Scouts say.

Oh Timmy! Was really hoping I wasn't going to have to remove the dash, Mk1's are an absolute PAIN!
Thanks for the suggestions though guys, will let you know how I get on... :worried:
