Hi everyone!
May I just say first of all, what a fantastic source of information, hints and tips this forum is!
I recently accuired my latest Montego Countryman 2.0 TD from a friend who has run Montego/Maestro's for as long as I have known him (at least 12 years!).
I fell in love with the Montego TD Estate when I borrowed one of his one summer about 5 years ago, and used it to drag my caravan all round the Lake District!
I went on to buy one from eBay, but the head gasket only lasted about a month and being fairly inexperienced in engine repairs (and having moved too far for my friend to offer any assistance) I traded it in and ran a 2.3 petrol Volvo 740 Est until it spontaniously combusted... (faulty wiring in the drivers heated seat apparently...)
Anyway, what I really wanted was to get myself back behind the wheel of a TD Montego and so, after a weekend spent in Cumbria swapping the engine in this one - here I am!!! - (engine swapped in back street, with no hoist!! lol)
The car is showing 135,000 on the clock, but the engine it now has in it was a recon and has done about 25,000 since.
There have been a couple of niggles, some more serious than others, like last week the oil pump had to be replaced due to a crack in the casting where the oil pressure switch screws in, but on the whole the car is running well and I am very pleased.
Right, I think I've rambled on enough now!! - Just wanted to say thanks for the info I've found here, and I look forward to taking part in future discussions!
Cheers
Chris
