Hi
The intermittent wipe has packed up on my 93, 1300 Clubman Maestro,
all other positions function OK. Any ideas please?.

I would suggest removing the steering cowl and then removing the wiper stalk for closer insection. The stalks can be rather fraglie. Removal and replacement is fairly straightforward. Checking the connections on the bit of the stalk you cant see would be my first port of call...

yeah i think the stalk is the most likely thing. other than that, it might be the relay. if its the relay i've got a spare somewhere i think. afaik there is a wiper stalk on ebay in one of the shops for about a fiver

This happened on an old Renault 5 I once had - turned out to be a fuse had blown. Whilst something must have caused it to blow I replaced the fuse and it didn't happen again so I was happy - perhaps I was working on the car and shorted something?
Worth checking your fuses to save a lot of hassle.
Getting the stalk assembly off is quite easy if it ends up being that. The hardest thing is often getting the steering wheel off so I've had to remove the column before to get at the back of the steering wheel with a hammer more easily.

Problem solved, I removed the right hand side cowl to find a small black wire adrift,it had broken away from a soldered lug, 5 mins with a soldering iron and
fault cured:)
Many thanks for the input,
Mike.

Glad you got it sorted, sounds much easier than replacing the whole assembly!
