Is this an Austin shaped Metro or a curvier shaped Rover Metro? It is the Austin version that shares its engine with the Maestro, and it is a 1.3 unit and not a 1.4 unit.

easiest place to check is the log book :)

failing that, on the 1275 (1.3) a series as in a maestro, its on a plate which is next to the thermostat housing (pipe that goes to the radiator), just below and right of the oil filler, just above the alternator, and will read 12H********
the car will be old W reg to G, or later as the autos changed over later.

if its the later K series, on my mates at least, its on a sticker on the front of the engine block, on the far right side, diagonally down and right from the exhaust manifold. will read 14K******* i think.
the autos will be J or later i think, but the shape of this metro started on G reg (1990)

hope this helps
