Hi there. after the maestro running lean i carried out carb adjustment, took off the suction chamber, inverted it and drained the oil,did all the adjustments, richened the mixture, reset the idle speed, all seemed smooth for a few days until one morning the car seemed unwilling to accelerate from rest and is very rough indeed until up to 20 or so mph. This seems worse when the car has not been used for a day or two. This clears up however, when the car is fully warmed up and it runs great. any ideas anyone?... i am about to fit a new thermostat as the heater is poor and the gauge isnt reaching 1/4 after a long run..

Sounds a bit like mine - I thought I'd fixed all the vacuum pipes but when I put it in the garage my mechanic daid they were still leaking and he's sealed them now - dunno what witht tho. Worth a check, anyway.
Oh and the other thing - after I got it back and it was fine, then it seemed to get worse again, and I found the multi plug to the ignition ECU had worked loose (the clip is old like the rest I guess) so I cable-tied that in place and it's better now - still a tad reluctant to move away from rest when cold, particularly reversing slightly uphill which is what I have to do.

Hi, If it was running lean did you check for air leaks and check the ORFCO is not stuck open, as just richening the mixture could mask over a problem. Im guessing you did top up the carb damper with oil again ;)

Thanks for that. The orfco valve has been taped out of the way as it was causing starting problems. The car has been ok since.i did top up the dashpot and all vacuum pipes appear ok even if i had to shorten a couple with clippers...

Just to bring up an old thread rather than starting a new one... my Maestro 1.3 has been running brilliantly recently, until I topped the dash pot up with oil, and now it is really hesitant when cold and accelerating, the same symptoms as described in the first post. I really don't understand this!!! The ORFCO valve is already disconnected, and the vacuum seems fine. It seems much better when it warms up, however.
Any ideas people? :)

Were you over-generous with the oil in the dashpot?

No I only put a splash in, as last time I put too much in it just smoked it off :D

Hi ChrisM, just double check that you have not accidentally bent the damper rod, also make sure the damper has not become detached from the rod. Examine the lower portion of the damper rod to make sure the circlip has not come off and the ferrul has dropped into the dashpot piston damper tube.
