Just a very quick question to which I should know the answer:
Are the wheels/tyres on a 1.6 maestro and 1.3L maestro the same size?
Cheers

1.3L has 13", which i am almost 100% certain on. I would also have said the 1.6L would have 13" too. Higher spec 1.6's have 14"? Pure speculation!
Surely it depends on what 1.6 you are talking about?

Hi!
They both have 13'' rims, but - depending on the tyre fitted - i think they are of different width. The 1.3 came with 155/80-13 tyres, the 1.6 with 165/80-13 (the largest diameter fitted to any Maestro!). Some later 1.3 Maestros (Ledbury?) had similar wheels as the TD: 175/70 on 14'' rims (same size as cheesegrater alloys from the MG taking 175/65-14...)
Everything clear??

on my montego they are 165 R 13, with no mention of the aspect ratio (or whatever its called). im struggling to find replacements without this value in, so is there a default value or are they different?

No height index means usually 80% height of the given width (165mm). So yours should be 165/80-14 R by todays standards. I guess when buying new the speed index will move up from R to S or T though...

PS: I am currently enjoying my Maestro back on 155/80 tyres (standard size). I know they are narrow, but fitting the front anti-roll bar made a HUGE difference, much more then fitting wider tyres. And the steering is just nice with the narrow ones :)

I've fitted 195/60-14 tyres on my Diesel (normally has 175/70-14's on it), purely because they were cheap.
You can feel the sidewall flex very slightly when turning in. The best in terms of grip would be a wide wheel with a tyre which is the narrowest for the width of the wheel - this reduces flex in cornering to a minimum.
But my car looks better on the chunky 195s!:D
