Wasn't pleased to say the least about the write up in the latest issue of EVO (no I didn't buy it) of the MG Maestro Turbo  I hate the :censored: who slate our cars. Having said that - at least it bought the attention of the public to just how fast and rare the cars are though.

I never bother with those boy racer mags anyway! I used to get Revs, but that has now gone the way of Max Power; Nothing but souped up hairdresser's motors!:rage:

I shouldn't worry too much about such drivel. We have a choice as to whether to buy these alleged mags or not...;) .

I'm proud to drive a make and model of car that hides its light under a bushel, whether top of the range or not! Knowledge is power.

What a load of s***e these mags print!, makes me laugh when they compare the MG Maestro Turbo to the Focus RS?????????????, the Focus RS is a car of today FFS! :banghead: the MG Maestro Turbo was a car of 1989 of which time the equivalent Ford (if they choose a Ford) would have been the Escort RS Turbo, now I'm a fan of RS's too as well as MG's but the Maesty Turbo would have blown the RS into the weeds having some 20bhp more than the RS with both in std form!

These people don't appreciate raw power and can only criticise it and laugh at it because of it's looks as for some looks are a problem, it's the owners of these cars that have the last laugh because........

1) The MG Maestro Turbo is a rare classic
2) It's bloody quick!
3) Beats most cars of it's time
4) And pi**es on muppets who drive 1.1 kitted to the max Saxo's and the like who like to think they're Michael Schumacher!

My thoughts confirmed entirely! It seems a bit pathetic to take the mick out of a car that's been long out of production. I just like the Maestro because it's not such a regular sight on the roads and has its own touch of character.

PS: Hope the restoration goes to plan on your Maesty! :)

Cheers,

John

Cheers John :) yes unfortunately the mags have always slated the Maestro and unfairly too, I never used to really take much notice of Maestro's but since owning one for a change I've really got the bug, if I had a few quid I'd like to get me hands on a Turbo to see what they're like as they're a good allround car and nowt wrong with them, maybe I could persuade the missus to let me have one one day!

As for the restoration mate, it should all be easy as all the panels that I need to restore are replacable such as doors, tailgate etc, te hardest and most time consuming job will be the sills and arches but theres no rush and I'll see a happy result in the end hopefully.

p.s. Tell me if I'm being nosey but do you live at Shone's Dairy?, my mate used to work there for quite a while, Dave Denton, and has mentioned your Maestro before.

Paul :)

Got it in one! Yep, Dave Denton came down in his taxi not so long ago. It must have been you he mentioned then, he said someone he knew had an EFi! :banghead:

LOL! small world mate! used to go down there myself occasionally when he was working there, used to know a few others as well who worked there, yeah Dave's getting rid of the Taxi this week as it's too old as they have age restrictions on the cars in Stoke for some reason so his Mondy TD hearse is going, not been a bad motor though considering it's done approx 380k! according to Dave's estimation!

Got any other plans for your Maesty then John?

I'm sorry but some of the writers points are valid. Gaps the size of videos tapes is exgeration but the body fit on Maestros is appalling and I own one! And they were not the most realiable originally. It is unfair to compare to a modern car, but if you feel that your car is lacking a little in image i susgest a few of the following:-

1. A nice set of alloys - 15's, 16's and 17's fit.
2. Lowered
3. remove the rubbing strips, they are awful and don't stop trollies bumping your doors.
4. Colour code the orange bit on the rear lights. They look awful, until the orange bit is gone and they will be road legal.
5. For owners with GRP bumpers - cut out the apertures and pop some mesh in, fake holes look rank. For those with ABS bumpers lucky you.

The best looking Maestro I have ever seen is Hector Whytes EVO kitted Maestro at MGM 99 (I think it was 99)
1. Nice set of wheels
2. lowered
3. EVO kit
4. Scooby scoop bonnet
5. DTM side mirrors
6. DTM rear spolier
7. Meshed front grill

The evo kit, Scooby scoop bonnet, meshed front grill are available from robert.purser@btinternet.com Soon DTM side mirrors will be availble too and new deep front grill.

I have a Montego VDP 2.0 EFi auto which I am breaking (fancy an auto box in your Maestro? ). Hope to fit but may not have time:-

1.)Air con

2.)Stainless exhaust

3.)Intercooler

also EW X4, EM, and headlamp wash.

I might gold plate or chrome the entire bodywork as well while I'm at it.... LOL

When I get that ZR or equivalent the Maestro will be in storage and/or run occasionally.
