After an Epic journey to a very dark and rainy Newcastle - i have a new car sat outside my house. £450 has got me a Ledbury Maestro in lovely navy blue. (and BTW - if anyone knows the proper name and code for this paint can you please tell me)

The drive back from Newcastle was uneventful - apart from some unbelieveably noisey wiper blades! - and we managed a constant 90mph all the way! (Which definatley scared some BMW drivers!!! )

Anyway - here's a pic!.....

Well i am glad the trip was uneventful. Nice to see the piccie *makes me a bit jealous now* :)

Well whilst £450 got you a nice R reg Ledbury.

£100 last night got us a L reg Turbo Diesel. The only problem being is, it was supposed to be broken for spares and to put the engine in the camper. But on looking at it this morning,it is probably in too good a nick to break. So not sure what we are going now!

All i know is 4 cars is a bit excessive for 2 people :)

Lindsey

p.s may put some piccies up later. Also we are desperately trying to not to name the TD, otherwise we will never get rid of it. If we name something it stays :)

Do you know how very very lucky you are???   And for that price, very good deal!
Why don't you have it on the driveway? I wouldn't leave it out on the road!
Are we not allowed to see the rear of it, or do I have to wait until tomorrow?
That reminds me we are taking A615 NFV ... again. But I have cured GGT's little problem anyway, even if it did take half an hour to get the radio working again!
I have to say yes I am quite jealous too, but I am still searching for one for my dad. (Which I will then nick off him when he's done with it! )

Congratulations Richard, bargain of the month! What other 'R' reg car (that's under 6 years old) could you buy for £450 without any accident damage or major defects? They're pretty basic but you've got yourself a sound base to build on if you want to.

I thought that might happen Lindsey, from one Maestro to three in just over a month :)

£450? That's what my Dad has just paid to get his D reg Volvo 340 through the MOT!
Ouch!

Yes, i'm VERY pleased with it!!!

There's a couple of dents and bits missing, but i'm looking forward to working on it and getting it back to how it should be.

Sadly - i cant afford to keep two Maestro's on my meagre Tesco wage so Aggie will be going up for sale. :(

It needs a bloody good clean and a good T-cut, but it will be well on it's way in no time at all!!!

 :)

Rich, I have another reason why you should be pleased with it...

Are you aware of the history of your new car? I though the registration sounded familiar...

Look at this picture and tell me who's car it is, and who is driving it, and what the logo is on the top left...

  :) :)

Yes, it is your car, I knew I had seen it before! I think it had appeared on a Men & Motors program a few years ago (when we had the LX still) - I think I taped the report, but I have no idea what happened to it! :banghead: :banghead: :rage:
Real Player isn't that good, so you're not missing much there.

That car was on Top Gear wasn't it, about the same time as Clarkson's car years? What a star car, great that its landed in the hands of an enthusiast!

couldn't help noticing how F170 and F705 resemble each other. even the hubcaps are the same! wish you luck on the restoration...

Austin-Rover
8th September 2003, 11:04
Not sure if this brings me any closer to finding the paint code, but on the back of the front numberplate, someone - i presume at Ledbury - has written "BLUE 963-1?"

Does anyone know what this means?

John S

LCG trim is the scheme as used in the 'last of the line' 1.3s, diesels and some metros. I have LCG on my chassis plate, but have VDP trim as you may know. I've kept my original seats, they're not in bad order - drivers seat is a bit creased though as my car has previously been a workhorse for the last 40K. I found them difficult to keep clean compared with the grey leather ones, however it heats up like a greenhouse in the summer - not pleasant to say the least.

PS: Looking gorgeous already! Those wheeltrims are much better than the Austin ones I think.

does it tie in with you vin number?

Austin-Rover
8th September 2003, 22:09
The numbers on the numberplate have nothing to do with anything on the VIN - so they will remain a mystery. Oh well....

One last Picture (I promise!) of the engine. And yes, i have cleaned and polished it all! :toothy:  :toothy:

You must be right. We also have a Peugeot painted in what they call 'Midnight Blue' - but the Maestro seems slightly darker in colour...

it must be something to do with the lighting, sometimes mine looks black(especially when its clean!)

with reference to your i.d plate containing your paint code, would it be worth a trip to your local rover dealer to try and shed some light on this,if they are as helpful as my local one they should be able to sort it out:)
