Can anyone suggest a way of installing a headlining from one Maestro, namely F705 SRY to another, namely F170 GGT?
What's the best way to remove them? How do they stay up there?

i think you might find that whilst the lining may be perfect now, once u desturb it, it wont stay good for long. touching them seems to finally finish off the foam backing.

It's a lot easier in a Maestro than a Montego saloon - you can get the roof lining out of the tailgate. The fixings are pretty obvious, nothing is hidden. Just be careful because these roof linings are, errm, quite fragile.

Richard Gelder and I did a swap on my Monty and the VDP in less than 2 hours, you'll do it quicker even on your own, on the Maestro.

As Rich has said - i can be a bit of an easy job on the Maestro. You will have to remove the sun visors to get it out, but apart from that it is quite easy to remove. Be extremely careful with the corners when moving it as they snap easily. Also make sure your hands are very clean before starting as any muck will show up.

Just slide it in and out of the boot.

Right. Dropped the headlining out of GGT in 20 mins flat. On me' tod. This weekend I will see if I (with some assistance) can drop the decent headlining from SRY and fit it into GGT...

Woohooo! Job done! GGT now has a perfectly good headlining! :) :D :p
It must have taken all of half an hour to fit it, after 15 mins of taking it out of SRY.

Glad you got it done okay.

Now you can move onto the next item on your list. It never seems to end!

Yes, job's a good'en!

Not only has the appearance of the interior improved, but there are no squeaks or rattles coming from the rear anymore! How's this come about? It seems to have deadened the noise somewhat... :) :D

Is that a driver's grab handle you have too??

Heehee, you noticed!
GGT didn't have one originally. (looks like somebody was stingy with the options list!) SRY had all the extras on it, like the said handle, a 5 box (!!) boot carpets, and a cigar lighter. All but the cigar lighter have been put on GGT now. Re the drivers handle, there are two big chunky clips between the headlining and the roof, which had to be swapped from SRY to GGT. (otherwise, without the handle, GGT would have a decent headlining with two big holes in it where there handle was screwed in on the other car!)

Hope that made sense! ;)

Simon,
FRB doesnt appear to have any sun-visors.... so maybe you didnt bother because you have a top-tint screen.... but how do you not have any holes in the lining where the bolts go through?!?!

Dave.

Aha! When you get a new headlining you don't get any punched holes through the fabric, only the substrate. I have a scalpel slit where the sunvisors will go but as yet I haven't come across any decent sunvisors that do justice to the headlining. I may fit all-plastic van visors to eliminate the saggy cloth syndrome that affects our cars (with Rover Sterling illuminated vanity mirror upgrade of course!). Speaking of little slits with the scalpel, I made one in the wrong place on the drivers side unfortunately, hence the drivers side grab handle!
