Hello all,
Having recently purchased a 1983 MG 1600 Maestro (Thanks Mark in Sunderland) I have a couple of questions :D
Was the car originally fitted with central locking?
Were electric windows an option or were they always manual?
Many thanks

as was metalic paint, black paint, slide and tilt sunroof, pushbutton radio/stereo unit and tinted glass

Ah; mine has black paint; purely a tilt sunroof and non-tinted glass (unless it is so slightly tinted I cannot tell!!)
Would the standard central locking and electric window mechanisms fit (obviously with the wiring and switches added)?
Thanks

im not an expert at moding things up because my car came with stuff like that.
I think the central locking design changed sometime during the maestros production run so i dont know if you could fit later locks onto an old car. someone will know though, i guarante it!
The window switches fitted into the door bins on the early cars and later madels had them below the radio.
If i were you id try and find an early vandenplas/MG/1.6 HLS in a scrappers and raid it for the bits you require. that way it will be totally standard and keep the car original looking (if thats the look your after)
The central locking on maestros is best described as tempremental I'd say, so it might take a few goes to get a good set.
