The temperature sensor on the dashboard went up way past halfway.
I tracked it down to a faulty thermostat staying stuck shut. Proved this by suspending it in a pan of boiling water and really boiling it up. It just didnt open. Anyway to cut a long story short I got a replacement from my local motor factor and fitted it. Now the stat was marked as 82 degrees C opening temp Fine! However it didnt have a jiggle valve. I assume this allows air to bleed from the system or something. Now my question is do I need a jiggle valve?
Does anybody know if it makes a difference if it has one or not.
Thanks

You dont need one , No.

if your haveing problem bleeding , drill a 1/8th hole , in the thermostate where the valve is on other cars , this should alow the air to pass , without water (apparently!) :spanner:

It should be fine however you can drill a very small hole in the stat as mentioned to help bleeding. I don't think any of the replacement ones I've had recently have had one.

Now you mention it I haven't seen a jiggle pin as we used to call them for years.
Manuals used to instruct which way the pin should face. Wasnt it towards the engine block ?.
