My instructor's Ford Focus.
Not only was passing 'The Test' a relief because it was my Xth attempt :o but because it meant that I could actually start motoring with a little bit of dignity at long last in 'nice' cars (even if they have been less than reliable lately and despite the efforts of insurance companies).

A rover 416Si saloon.
It stuck out like a sore thumb, with all the little learner cars. I only had that because it was a lease car and got free insurance to drive it!
Just a word to anyone who is thinking of buying one they are a bugger to parralel park. I can get the bigger Rover 600 into smaller spaces than the rover 400 saloon.

I passed on the second attempt in my instructor's Fraud Fiesta. Needless to say, I already had a Maestro parked up and waiting for me to drive after I passed!

Well, you have to use a special instruction car (with a set of pedals for the instructor) over here. So there is not really a choice since most of these are VW Golf TDI today. Back when I did my test in 1987 most of them were Golf D's. I used a BMW 324d instead...
But compared to the MG Maestro or Austin 1800 S I drove in later it was sooo slow :-)

I learnt in a kia pride and passed first time on 23/3/01. I then waited till january 2002 before i could afford to buy a car and insure it.
1 x Rover Maestro 1.3LX @ £375
1 years insurance @ £1137.60 (if I remember correctly)
there were plenty of other cars cheaper to insure but I had decided a while back that I was having a maestro

BSM standard issue Corsa, passed at 4th attempt. Also had the odd unsuccessful drive in Mum and Dad's 1.3HLE, cursing the gearbox!

Passed first attempt in BSM Metro 1.3 Clubman 30.8.90
The first BSM Metro expired silently with low oil pressure, the second (a GS) caught fire after an engine earth lead wasn't reconnected after previous work (a mile after I'd got out of it - it was gutless anyway for a 71bhp engine...) and the third was ok. Also had a motorway lesson - no PassPlus then - which stood me in good stead for the long drives to Uni at Brighton and back (300 miles in a Mini Mayfair - my back still hurts, but this is possibly down to riding a moped back from Brighton the same summer as passing my test...

Passed 1st time in 09/2001, Vauxhall corsa 1.2 BSM, gorgeous blue colour......NOT! Quite a nice car to drive but then they jog about quite a bit over rippled surfaces and they are so uninspiring, not keen on the rear end styling either. I much prefer the corsas made from K '93 - X '01 personally.

I must be ancient as I passed my test in 1959 in a 1957 Austin A35. It was my parents pride and joy, which gave them years of pleasure tootleing around the country.
The brakes were never too hot, no servo unit. Even the hand brake was attatched to a brick that you had to throw out of the window.(Old-time servo)
Where are the other old timers??

Started learning in a 205xd, but that was stolen from the instructors drive  .
He then used a 1.9 GTI for a few days untill a pupil burnt out the clutch, so on my test day I had a quick half an hour in a 309GTI, then had my test.
I passed too 1st time too!.
That was in 89, 3 days after my 17th B,day.
Three weeks later I was taking my test in a bedford 4 tonner(class 3)

Here's one! I passed first time in March 1962. The instructor's car was a Morris Minor 1000. Each time I arrived for a lesson he was on his knees unbolting the seat bracket so he could reverse it for my long legs.
As a student I paid 16/- (=80p) a lesson, and I needed 18 1/2 lessons. The last 1/2 was because I was such rubbish on what should have been the last lesson.
I still remember the astonishment I felt when the chief examiner, absolutely without expression, said 'I have to tell you... you have passed your test.' Happy days - petrol was under 5/- a gallon (= about 5p a litre).

Got a block of 10 lessons for my 17th birthday back on 19th June 2002, and these were in a brand new Clio. I was the first to learn in it, think it had 42 miles on the clock. It was slow and the pedals were too close together. Had 9 lessons and then took my test and passed. Booked my theory just after my birthday, and when i'd passed that I booked my test, and had to wait till 10th October.
Was probably helped by the fact that I drove my dad everywhere in my old Astra, did a lot of miles travelling to away games for football; just under 5000 I think I put on it before my test. Much more interesting than the motorway, although it did take a bit longer. Think i've now driven about 60-65,000 miles in those 4 years.

I passed second time in an A reg'd mk1 Nova 1.0 hatch on 24th July 1986. :)
Passing cheered me up, because earlier in the day I'd been to the funeral of a school friend who died in a motorcycle accident. :(

I passed 3 months after my 17th birthday - I had 6 lessons with an instructor, after doing hundreds and hundreds of miles with my dad. Learnt with my dad in an 02 reg Suzuki Swift, and took my lessons and test in a Diesel 306 (quel surprise!). Test was December 27th 2004, and I passed first time :)

I passed second time, in my instructor's P reg Fiesta diesel, I would always get told off for using full lock because it made the belt squeal! The first test was a disaster, I caused an accident which I wasn't involved in at one of the busiest sets of traffic lights in Southampton, and nearly ran someone over reversing round a corner..... and still only got 4 minor faults?!?!?!? The second time was a bit better, managed to get three! Also drove my own car around for a bit, I had three in the time I was learning - an X reg Mark 1 1.3 Fiesta Ghia, which gave new meaning to the word slow, an F reg Peugeot 309 1.3 GE, which the MOT tester actually laughed at when I told him why there wasn't any brake fluid in it (!!!!!), and a C reg Maestro 1.3L, which was the first car I ever actually drove, given to me after my mate decided he wanted something more current and thus bought a 1.2 Corsa.....
I'd have kept the Maestro, but it had a few rust issues (top of the rear turrets had left the building.....!), and also it had dodgy brakes, which were admittedly an easy fix, but crucially, the Peugeot was far cheaper to run!
