Hi peeps, I had to disconnect my battery while welding her up the other day for the mot, when I connected the battery back up the stereo was asking for the code which I'm not sure of, but on the spare keys that I got with the car is a little metal tab with a 4 digit number on it which you get from the dealer when the car is new (I know this from when we had our new Metro), would this be the stereo code or is it a keycut number for Rover's reference?
I don't want to get the code wrong as every time it is enetered wrong it doubles up the waiting time before trying a code again, this happened to the last one I had and was told by the dealer who found out the code that this is what happens.
If this number on the tab is not the code then it'll only cost a fiver at the main dealer to have it coded.
Cheers

I think this could be the code for the radio as i have a vague reccolection of something similar on the keys for our old Rover 200. Have you tried looking on the radio itself - it may have been written on there in the past. The handbook is another favourite for writing the code down in - check the back pages.

Hi mate, yeah I have checked in the handbook and nothing in there, it just clicked with me this morning on the way to work about the tab on the keys so will try it tonight, not had the stereo out so if the tab number doesn't work I'll give that a try :)
Cheers

The small metal tab on the spare key ring is for the key number, on our cars it will be a 4 digit code stamped on beginning with the number 4. The radio code is also a 4 digit number. You might have found that the previous owner wrote it on the log book perhaps. If in doubt get it professionally decoded.

You're right, none of the numbers attached to my spare set of keys worked, so it's off to my nearest dealer to have it decoded, only a fiver tho :)

The numbers on the tag on your spare set of keys is the code you'll need should you ever have to have your KEY replaced!
A car's first owner usually loses the tag, so you're quite honored to have yours!
The car will have come with a small card, like a cash/credit card, which will have contained the radio-code. You obviously haven't got that, but as you say, getting it re-coded is usually under £10, which kinda makes a farse of the system if you think about it...

Hello all,
When I got my first Maestro (also fitted with the 670 radio cassette) I just rang philips for the code.
Philips then gave me the number of the company thaty had taken over the audio part of the company and they then gave me the code number (and entry details AND sent me a copy of the manual!! ) for the radio.
Sorry I don't have the exact details ('phone numbers, etc.) but I cannot find them!!
Hope this helps
