I don't know if anyone else saw this program, well it was on BBC after all... called Car Wars, a Police documentary thingy.
Anyway it showed CCTV footage from a car park somewhere in London...
I nearly (VERY NEARLY!!) cried when I saw a gang of damned yoofs, yobs, scabs, whatever, smashing the windscreen (with a bloody great pole!!??) on none other than a VERY EARLY Zircon Blue metallic Austin Maestro 1.3/6L. Yep, me too. Wasn't it an Azure Blue over Grey 1988MY Maestro with the red inserts in the broad rubbing strips?

No - it was a MKI (1983-1985) Zircon Blue one. It might have had the rubbing strips - I didn't really notice!
