Hey, we've got loads of Montegos in our local srapyard! At the moment there's only one Maestro. Since that Maestro was put in there, there have been several Maestro's that have been and gone! City, Special, LX, L, and a Van!

Hmmm.. No shortage of scrap Montegos on this side of the Pennines, Tony.

I was at the local yard this afternoon and found TWO K reg monties in there!

I reckon you'll only see the odd Countryman estate go to the scrappies over the next few years. I tried to get a 14" steel wheel from a Montego as a spare for my car and found that they didn't put them on the shelf and threw them away as they were "too old now mate".

our local scrappers always got monty estates (just as well, with steves driving!)
also plenty of maesty's.
my kids are getting fed up with me, everytime we are driving anywhere,if i see a maestro, i shout 'maestro!' they give me a withering look and say 'get a life, mum!'
but seriously, you can't nip to the local shops without seeing at least three of them!

At the moment, there are more Montegos in our scrapyards than Maestros. The number of the latter on the road in this area seems to have overtaken that of the Montego.
Just today pulling out of my school car park were a Montego and a Maestro - both of which were 1.6 LX. It was great to see them both going out in convoy, and I didn't even have to plan anything!   :D :) :p

Alan was that LC Hughes? and did either of the monty's have leccy sunroofs in? Really want one but just haven't had the chance to get to a scrap yard recently! and LC Hughes is nearer than Smiths (bloxham)

Indeed it was! I wasn't sure about the sunroofs 'cause I didn't take too much notice as I was looking for something else. Come to think of it I wasn't sure if they were under a "stack" either as they stack them two high and inevitably shatter the glass if there was a sunroof there. Bit of a waste if you ask me. Thinking that they could make a bit more money from these parts and not have to charge silly prices for what can be salvaged. If you are local to me, perhaps you could try PC Autos in Oakley, only five minutes down the road. Not nearly as many cars as 'Hughes, but the prices are much keener!;)

I keep seeing loads of Maestros on the roads where I live. For Steve, the one I see most often is an F-reg 1.3 Special with no rust, in blue!

I can't wait to finish my MG 2.0. :)

Yeah, after I read in Monstro about the C-Reg'd Maestro that was in Rush Green in Langley I hot-footed it down there and basically gutted it for parts. There were also loads of Monties there, mostly 2.0L ones.

If you tell the bloke in the office that you read about him in the Maestro Enthusiasts' magazine then he'll probably give you a discount. He charged me 50 quid for as much stuff as three people could carry!

Take a look in Monstro for the details.

There's a VDP Montego in Rush Green but I had the O/S/R electric window regulator out of it, it should still have the other one in though. Why don't you try some of the scrapyards in Luton/Dunstable. Montego GSi models also had rear electric windows, but the connecting plug on the regulator is slightly different (easily sorted though). Searching for rare parts is frustrating, I'm currently looking for some decent sun visors. Anyone out there know of any??

I didn't know there where any scrap yards in Luton/Dunstable. Have you got the names and locations of any of them please??

Thanks

Nath

Try these, ring first though:

Dunstable Car Disposal, French's Ave Dunstable 01582 666881 (I think there's more up there too)

KD Car Breakers, Chaul End Rd, Caddington 01582 455378

Things are getting pretty thin on the ground though these days.

AU - I've got a pair of excellent sunvisors on my scrap '88 Montego 2.0 VDP Auto if you want them. You can have them for a fiver and a bit of postage if you like - so sad the car is being scrapped but it's a crate!
The engine and gearbox operate fantastically and would do tens of thousands more miles though if that interests anyone, could even have been overhauled at some point in the car's life . Every body area has corrosion on it except the passenger door which is rust free (light blue with hurricane grey bottom?)I'm keeping the electrics & front leather seats though. Grey door cards with walnut are up for grabs as is is the rear leather seat.
Anyone know if the Montego VDP came with a Sharp stereo system from new as this looks like it could be an original item? I will give away the speakers to someone who would possibly be interested also.

John

Simon.

Did the VDP Montego have leather seats in it and if so did you notice what condition they were in? Do you know if sallon montego seats will fit stragiht into an estate?

Thanks

Nath
