Can anyone give me some advice I have a maestro 1.3L. When I start my engine from cold my temperature gauge goes up to hot and remains there sometimes after it has been running for 30minutes it will return to normal. I have replaced the temperature sensor but I still have the same problem.

Help!!!!!!!

It could be a short circuit somewhere causing the gauge to go straight to 'overheating'...

Check the wire from the sensor to make sure it isn't shorting out on any metalwork like the engine or body. If it shorts out it'll read very very hot (probably off the scale).

If you can't find any problems here then it could be a sticking thermostat. I.e it is sticking closed. if this is the case then it needs fixing ASAP as otherwise you'll risk engine damage. If when you turn the ignition on the gauge goes straight up without starting the engine then it is definatly an electrical glitch. If you can't find a short circuit and the car is still fitted with an autochoke mechanism then I think it could be a faulty ECU as the temperature gauge is controlled by the ECU.
