Right, once again, i've decided that i want to upgrade the front discs on the maestro 1.3 to vented discs, as i'm now planning on ripping out the 1275cc a a series lump, and dropping something "slightly bigger" in it.
Am i going to need different wishbones?
will i need a different rack? (im toying with the idea of putting PAS in too)
will it be easiest just to get a rotten vented disc car and take the bits off that?
thanks in advance!

I'm no expert, but I think that if you are going to upgrade the engine and gearbox, you'll probably need new driveshafts as well as uprated brakes and possibly suspension. Why not just buy a turbo?

ok, basically because i used to have two tickford turbo's, 256, and 58. i ended up scrapping 256 (after offering it to anyone for free), and 58 got sold.
I am fully aware of the driveshaft/engine mount/ etc problems that i will encounter, but i am not interested in buying a turbo because:
a> i can't afford one,
b> ive had two
c> they tend to get stolen (256 did but i got it back)
d> they are NOT common.
e> my plan is something a little bit different!
anyway i digress, i just need to know what parts i need (with the exception of driveshafts) to convert to vented discs.
Thanks,

Hi, Awol. all you need is the discs and the calipers to just go to vented discs.
Cheers :)

i shall give it a try then as i have those lying around spare as it happens, the old set of callipers off my mg and a set of crossdrilled grooved and vented discs.. one question though, will i need a different calliper mounting bracket? if so i'll have to go to the scrappy.

The calipers are actually 90% the same. The vented calipers just have a spacer bolted in between the piston end and the curved end. (It is a lot more obvious what I'm on about when you put them next to each other).
The mountings are the same too I think.
If you want further upgrades Robert purser has put a thread up about offering some larger disc upgrades. I'm also aware of someone else putting enormous brakes on his car at the moment but details of that will follow in due course.

Yes, the 280mm disc conversion does seem quite good too - i have it fitted to my EFi at the moment (not that i ever had a problem with the original Efi brakes), but i'm hoping to get by with the standard mg vented disc setup on the 1300, when i get round to fitting it....
Haven't really got round to giving the uprated brakes "death" yet though, but theyre time will come!

You mean there's actually a selection of Maestros and Montegos in your local scrappies? There are none round my part of the country. In fact, the yard I used to visit now only lets you take parts off the shelf, and won't let you walk round the old cars in the yard.

yup, there is a scrappy within an hours walk (5 min drive) from me that has got one maestro and one montego td countryman in it, it did have two other maestros in it til last week or so, but they've gone now.
It's quite handy for parts, and reasonable on price (generally) too. but a bit pricey on complete cars.
