this is on my vdp...it hasnt worked since i got the car.

i put a new fuse in and no better.

im waxoiling the doors today so is there anything i could look for while ive got the cards off?

P.S im doing a seperate post to countrymankid because i thought the early central locking would be different to newer models. is this correct?

thanks in advance ;)

I think all the central door locking things are the same whether early or late. They all are pretty rubbish!

Does your door lock attempt to shot or is it completly dead? If so then check the fuse to make sure that is hasn't blown already.

Whilst the door cards are off you can give the linkages a good lubricate and also give the plug for the door motor a good clean up. I'd start on the drivers door as this is the most likely location for anything to go wrong as it used the most.

the motors are completly dead. it doesnt even make an attempt to lock

i will clean all the connectors up while ive got the cards off.

tried everthing advised by dan....anyone able to help me?

could it just be down to the fact that the car is old and the motors have seized?

Is now the time to say all 4 of mine work on the vp :D

Sorry I know I am evil ;) I just couldn't resit commenting.

If the motors are gone, maplins is about £30 for a set I think.

Even if the motors are seized I'd still expect them to clunk when you lock and unlock the drivers door. I'd check out the connections and the control unit if you are having no luck inside the doors.

ahhhh but the millage on mine is ohhh so much lower than on yours lol :D

so they havnt been used as much therefore making it more likely that the motors have seized.... does this sound like a possible rason for mine not workin..im really confused! :banghead:

might have to see about gettin some new motors!

I would have thought the switch on the drivers door lock might be faulty, theres no motor in the drivers door, just a switch to fire the other four motors. have you had a good look at this and tested it etc.

to the drivers door control unit you should have a purple wire which is the feed from the fuse, you should have +12V here.

from the door control unit is a black wire which is the earth, make sure this is making a good connection to the steel bodywork.

from the door control unit there is an orange wire which i presume is used to take +12V to the other 4 motors. also a pink wire comes out of here which is for reversing the polarity I presume.

there appears to be quite a few connectors to check in the pink and orange wires throughout the looming.

get a multimeter on the job and check for voltages throught the system to find out where its going wrong. If you need more help come back to us

BTW you are right I think, there are two versions of the central locking which changed about 1988? not sure though.

The Maplins motors will solve all your problems. Rear ones are a direct fit but the passenger front one (you can keep the original driver's control unit) can be a b :censored: d to fit unfortunately. Remember to run the engine for a bit after fitting as I found that it made the motors work better when the battery was well charged.

Thats ok, but if its just a bad earth on the drivers door control unit (for example) it should be easy to sort out.

it sounds like the control units at fault, I would expect at least a bit of effort from one of the four motors, so it points to a common problem ie the control unit.

cheers all for you advice.. :D

where is this control unit..is it in the drivers door?
