I urgently need a fuse box for my 1.6 Montego.

Have you tried Halfords??

I doubt Hellfrauds will be of any use...

I'd recommend just taking a trip to your local scrapyard...

Is the maestro fusebox the same? It might broaden the search in the scrap yards if it is. I presume this is because of a PCB fault in the fusebox (common problem). If you are handy with a soldering iron you may be able to repair your old one at a pinch.

What model year Montego is it? The fuseboxes changed for the 1989 model year, the later ones being fairly problematic as they are based on a printed circuit board (the early ones are dead simple in construction - and I would say more reliable because of this - but not interchangeable with the later ones).

did the early Montys have the fusebox in the top of the dash like the Maestro 1600s?
Is there an easy way of differentiating between the PCB type and the early type - apart from part numbers?
TIA

The monty never had a early maestro style dash they always had the later one so no they didn't have the fusebox on top of the dash.

No idea about distinguishing fuse box types though...

Yes, dead easy. All Maestro's with the Montego dash share the Montego pre 88 facelift fusebox. This is a type where the relays are mounted externally and the fusebox itself is hard wired at the back. Later Montego's have a Metro/Rover 100 style "modular" fusebox featuring integral relay sockets and plug-in connections. These are the ones with the PCB track failure issues.

thanks for that; of course we still don't know what sort the thread starter wants ! :banghead:
