View Full Version : MG Saloon Day
Hi all,
Just got back from the MG Saloon day, hope everybody that attended got home safely.
Had an excellent day, good to see the crowd again and have a good time with brilliant weather. Pity I didn't manage to get the MG ready in time  Maybe BL day.
Got a few needed parts from the stalls too, any luck i'll be at the Centenary event next weekend, failing that it'll be BL day, can't wait!
Dean
P.S. If that mirror is no good, Rich, i'll take it off your hands!

Nice to see you today, Dean. Just arrived home, complete with road-burn, lol... It's been a good weekend, cheers people
Will sort through my photos later, once I've unpacked the car, and post them up...

Glad to read peeps are getting home safely.
Great show, good to meet up and put some faces to usernames.
MMOC easily had the best club stand, well done folks.
Got to use my evenings this week to get Nellie in fine fettle for next weekend.
She's only been on a Motorway once before (and that was when attending the 21st birthday bash last year!)
Just for advance planning, does anyone know as yet what time we need to be on the show field next saturday?

What an excellent day! It was nice walking around the show, visiting the different areas and seeing so many nice cars. The cars in the judging area were particularly nice! It was good to see more auto jumblers this year too.
We had a very good mix of Maestros and Montegos (And as usual, a Metro!) on our stand which was full to bursting! We had to extend it twice, and we used every available space. Some of the cars we had included not only a Maestro and Montego Turbo, but two campervans, a Maestro race car, a 1.3LX made to look like a Tickford Turbo, a Maestro DLX, Metro GTi and the Staples 2 Naples scabby estate.
Some of my photos are below; I will add some to the Gallery (http://www.maestro.org.uk/pp_gallery/index.php?) too.

Thanks to everyone who came along and displayed their cars. The day went really well and somehow I managed to speak to loads of you all as well as doing parking duty and other tasks.
I also took over 100 pictures of cars but I am sure I missed a few motors. If you have some pictures you took of the cars, I'd be grateful if you e-mailed them to me - matthewsemple@hotmail.com
They may end up on the MG Saloon Day review and they would help us to assess how many of each car we had turn up.

My photies are going up in the gallery also.

Have I missed anyone out? Please let me know if I have
Sorry I didn't get to make it in the end, I think thats the first MGSD I have missed since owing a Maestro :violin: anyway, will def be at the BL rally this year.

I enjoyed Sunday too, thanks everyone (especially the MG'M' Group who organise and invite us to this show every year) and good to speak to some of you again.
The event now has its own dedicated section of the gallery for pictures to which I've now added some of mine. There's something about Stanford Hall and the grounds that really lends itself to the camera.

And for the campers who stayed up most of the previous night playing with pretty coloured flashing lights, here's evidence that the paranormal really is true... or is it just Dan being silly as usual?

Here's a photo you won't have seen elsewhere: the two white Maestro Turbos of Norman Dawson and Lee Pointer, stopped at Corley service station, on the way to MGSD. Although the services look empty in the photo, there were quite a lot of cars around. Such an unusual sight, these beauties were even attracting admiring glances and smiles from fellow travellers who had parked up in their modern "Euromobiles":

That's a great photo John. Glad that you could make the show.
We will reinact this on Sunday when the MG 'M' Group (SW) meet at Exeter Services before going on to Powderham.

I see David Smith has taken a likening to my car :toothy: My Car (http://maisie.accelerator.org/MGM2005/photos/photo3.html)
It was a good event, could have done with more room as we had to have two rows and were tightly packed. But for our first proper outing with the new stand display it went well. Didn't seem to be as many Maestros/Montegos this year though :( James Black turbo was looking very nice, and so was Jeffs Black Monty, also liked the 1.3 lookalike that fooled a few people and it had the rare hella grille on it.
It was good to see Deans DLX and the leather interior looked comfy.
The photoshoot at the end was good, we always seem to be the last club to leave as we gossip about everyones cars.

There is a feedback form on the MG 'M' Group's site (http://www.mgcars.org/mgm) so please feel free to pass on your comments and e-mail it to the club - mgmcargroup@yahoo.co.uk
We have taken on the comments from clubs about the size of club stands and this will be addressed next year.
The numbers of Metros, Maestros and Montegos were similar to last year but the fact that so many were on club stands and not in the middle of the field gave the impression that there were less.
Early estimates indicate that there were about 100 Metros, Maestros and Montegos (counting all varients) - still making up the largest group of cars at the show.

After some delay we have now have a large gallery of images over on www.mgcars.org.uk/mgm
If you click on Past Events in the menu on the left of the above page, you'll see a link to MGSD 2005 which currently is really only suitable for Broadband users. A dial-up friendly version will be ready soon.
If we have missed you car can you send me a photo via e-mail - thanks.
