I thought my Ledbury was strange, when i turn the lights on the radio comes on aswell! It sounds like you've reconnected some wires the wrong way round,or am i stating the obvious?

I've just spent the past 6 months rebuilding the front end on the MG Maestro - replacing it for a Montego one basically. Even with the differing items I've not experienced anything like this, so I'm not quite sure how you've managed this on a base spec 1.3! :hide:

However, what electrical items did you disconnect? As the Haynes manual says, 'fitting is the opposite of removal'. Did you fully remove any wiring items? :banghead:

Checks all your earths. You most likely have a bad connection somewhere, and the elastrickery is finding the easiest route back to the battery via everything else.

Hi, as above, but as you have taken probably take off the bumper mounts then a lot of the earths are fastened here, check these first as you will have disturbed them. ;)

Cheers gary :)

As stated above, almost certainly earth points. Have you waxoyled an earth bolt before reassembly?

I spent today waxoyling my Ledbury. This involved removing front and rear bumpers and i found no earths attached,to any bumper mounts. After putting the bumpers back on,everything worked as it should....electrically speaking!

ahh, i think i know what ive done...i think the earth wire im on about goes under the bootom bolt on the battery platform.... i think im going to take up knitting rather than messing about with cars lol ;)

I had exactly the same problems with teh electrics on my turbo when I removed the front bumper and forgot to screw the earths back on!. (The main earths are mounted to teh bumper retaning bolts on the inner wing).

Don't worry I felt everso silly too when I finally realised what I'd done.
I had exactly the same symptoms, one indicator light glowing faintly all the time and the wipers came on when I turned the igniton on or something similar. Earthing faults do have some REALLY strange effects on a car!

Is it a case of,plastic bumper cars having earths to attached the mounting brackets and metal bumper cars not?

yes craig thats probably the case....check on your ledbury if the earthing point we're on about attaches under the bottom bolt on the battery platform

To stop the next 20 odd posts of random letters I'll try to explain what part P is. It is the new electrical regs (that virtually no-one is taking any notice of) that mean that Joe bloggs the DIY-er is in theory seriously restricted as to what he can and can't do on his own. If he does certain things he may then have to have them inspected by a certified sparky or the council. It is to stop cowboy builders/sparkys etc from doing a poor job meaning that every job that comes under part P (which wiring up a shed probably would) requires a certificate to say it has been done safely and in accordance with the rules.

However I don't know anyone who is taking any notice of these new rules (apart from our resident electrician tony of course). Do a google on Part P electrical rules and you'll see what I mean.

are the wiring to the wipers on the inner top of the glove box ?

either a new bad earth , or youve trapped a wire and shorted it out ? :nonono:
