View Full Version : MG Saloon Day and pre-event camping, weekend of 2nd and 3rd July 2005

It is MG Saloon Day (see the Events section in the main menu on this site) at Stanford Hall, Leics., on 3rd July, and we have organised limited camping for the night before at Lodge Farm Camp Site (http://www.lodgefarm.com/campsite/) (the same place we stayed at last year). There are a few electric hookups available if people would like these but I need to be able to confirm numbers of hookups needed by Friday 24th June, while the number of tents and campers is more flexible.

We are planning to meet at Lodge Farm in the early afternoon of the Saturday (2nd July), get sorted out and then pay a visit to the Coventry Transport Museum (http://www.transport-museum.com/home.htm) (free admission). Then in the evening we will have one of the Club's now-legendary BBQs.

The camp site is only a few miles drive from the MG Saloon Day venue, so it won't be a terribly early start on the Sunday  .

So please can people indicate their interest in attending the MG Saloon Day , and also if you are interested in camping the night before (so I can advise the campsite how many tents, caravans, camper vans and hookups to expect)?
Just to reiterate, I need to know how many hookups we need by 25th June - and also a rough estimate of how many other campers will be attending, by the same date.

I'll start off the list again as normal  I think people would be worried if me and Dan didn't turn up.

Lindsey and Dan - Camping with Campervan

The Campervan will make it this year ;)

Coventry Transport Museum was great fun last year, some very nice cars there and the best part of all is that it is free. :toothy:

Here is a pic of some of the members having fun last year http://www.maestro.org.uk/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=1187

I shall be there for both the camping and fantastic BBQ and MG Saloon Day!

I shall be there for an evening barbeque and will require one tent-spot. I'm currently trying to convinse MaestroMatt to take a weekend off from the wife and come with me so it may be two of us, one tent, two Maestros and one barbeque.

Cooked our supper with the barbeque tonight as it happens, so we're getting the practise in!

Sorry Matt, can we do the Miracle Maestro shot at the Centenary event?

Otherwise if you've assembled the rest of the Miracle crowd at MGM, I'll willing to change my entry.

I am not going to Austin Centenary as I am at another show. There's no official (or unofficial) plans to do Miracle Maestro shot at MGSD but if enough Y and A-reg cars turn up we'll do an impromptu shot at the end of the day.

Cars that are easy to get:

Vanden Plas (lots of MMOC people)
MG1600 (mine)
1.3 L

Cars that aren't as easy to get

1.6 HLS
1.6 L
1.3 HLE
1.3 Base

But we'll see how we get on. I will be very busy that day as I am on the MGM Group committee so I might arrange such a shoot on another occasion such as that Gaydon Meet in March.

I'd like to mock up the numberplates and get a big bubble-tent thingy ;)

My 1.3 Pov... I mean, Base... Should be arriving (at my friends) at weekend. :toothy:

Those numberplates can be knocked up by www.fancyplates.com cheap enough I think. :)

I could be wrong but I seem to remember the original promotional range photo was done in the lake district. If we could just find out the actual location and get the right cars together...

As for MGSD though, if they'll let us use the area in front of the house or the main driveway there's potential for a stunning group picture there, and I fancy another now it's a few years since we last did this. I'd need a van to stand on of course... :)

Top plan Jon - we'll do it when the show season is over.

Yes, Stanford Hall is a great location for a photo opportunity.

No we are all evil, and are very fussy about newcomers

Only joking, anyone is welcome regardless of if your camping or not. We'll do a tesco run in coventry again for the bangers n burgers. Wonder if we will meet more metro campers again this year :hat: It is a nice campsite we are at, quite small and quiet (well it was last year so it didn't matter if we made too much noise)

I may just attend the MG Saloon Day on the Sunday only. May have to be the Rover 75, but not sure as yet. Cannot make Saturday due to family commitments and about a 15 hour driving lesson.

Is there any charge to get in to this event?

Any questions ask me and I'll try to get you an answer.

A few questions about this Sundays show,

1. Can I pay on the day? As I don't know if I've got my lieu day yet

2. What time can I enter the grounds

3. Looks like i'm coming on my own, so only be able to bring one car, will it be ok if it's my MG Metro (if it passes it's MOT) or should I bring my DLX Maestro?

Hope to see you there!

Dean.

Yup can pay on the day, I think it is from 10am. Bring what ever you like, your Metro will be just as welcome on the club stand as the Maestro will.

Look forward to seeing you there :)

Yes, that's right 10am and £6

Looks like i'm coming on my own, so only be able to bring one car, will it be ok if it's my MG Metro (if it passes it's MOT) or should I bring my DLX Maestro?

Bring either as both will be welcome. The show is organised by the MG M Group that caters for Metros, Maestros and Montegos. We are always a bit short of MG Metros - even though they were built in huge numbers.

Of course if your car fails MOT bring the Maestro - all are welcome - the main thing is you come in a British car.

OK, last call for camping the night before...

My list is as follows:

Tents

Tony and family
Rich Gelder
ChrisM
Myself

Camper vans and caravans

Dan and Lindz
Maria and Chris
Metro Mike

I am presuming all 3 'vehicles' need hook ups?

I need to confirm with the campsite manager in the next day or so, especially the number of hook ups but also a rough estimate of the number of tents.

Also, as an aside, it will be fun getting trailers and caravans into the field we used last year, as there is an impossibly tight 170 degree turn into it (but plenty of space for suitable manoeuvres further into the site where there is a big square). It's not impossible but will take a few minutes.

We will also be having a BBQ, plus a trip to Tesco in Rugby and sharing of costs for food (pay for our own booze though), so it looks like a good night. I'll confirm arrival times etc later this week.

For Austin Centenary I presume you mean not MG Saloon Day?

Zoe needs to know who is going to centenary, otherwise none of you will fit on the stand, as the stand size is given based on those who have pre-booked I believe. Also the stand will be pre-marked out with spaces for cars in a design so if you can let Zoe know you are both coming that would be good.

Absolutely right! Wrong thread. Have you an e-mail address for Zoe?

Also, forgot to say last night, anyone going to MG Saloon Day but camping elsewhere the night before will be more than welcome to pop in for the BBQ on the saturday night. If you could indicate if you hope to visit us at Lodge Farm, that would be useful so we don't run out of food.

Zoe's email address - the format is firstname.lastname@maestro.org.uk and Zoe's surname is Waterfield (desperately trying to avoid publishing Zoe's email address  ), she will be pleased to hear from you.

I'll ring the campsite tomorrow with numbers, and does the requirement for 3 hookups still stand?

Cool, I just added you to the list above (was writing it in between you posting). It will be great to have your Monty on the stand, it is gorgeous.

A new member is hopefully bringing his black turbo to be on the stand too.

Plus I think the Montego Estate from the club that is entered for the Staples to Naples run this year should be making an appearance too.

Darren, all of the cars listed in your signature would be most welcome at the show. Cars are parked together so if you came in the Zed, you could park with other Zeds. If you came in your Maestro you could park with other Maestros or on the MMOC stand.

Its a nice relaxed show and you'll enjoy it whatever you arrive in.

My HLE is giving me grief at the moment :worried: , but I'm determined to attend the centenary event.
I'm planning on sprucing it up next week, so I'm afraid this Sunday it'll have to be the zed or zilch.

Thought: If I'd been in charge of the home office in recent years I'd have equipped our Police force with Zr's, Zs's and Zt's.

OK, after a phone call and a wee bit of confusion :banghead: , we have one definite hook up and possibly one more... and I have booked 4 small tents, 2 Maestro campers and Mike's caravan.

For the northern posse, I am proposing to meet at Tibshelf Services near Chesterfield on the M1 (between Junctions 29 and 28 southbound) at 12.30pm, then motor down to Lodge Farm. Rich G and I will be meeting Tony and helping him at his house first, hence not meeting at Dan and Lindz' as we usually would.

I reckon we'll be on site and set up by 3pm.

Looking forward to it now  .
