Sounds like a fabulous Maesty. I hope it goes to someone in the club.

Yeah, it sounds lovely. Just a shame there are no photos of it.

Shame it's an auto, otherwise I'd have been sorely tempted. I quite fancy an early one with an R series engine!

Wait a minute...there WAS no HLS Auto. Auto's came in as a "1.6 Auto" model originally. What's going on...? I'd quite fancy an early HLS with sunroof on a Y plate, with optional cheesegraters.

True.
I've seen an ad on Autotrader for a 1994 Austin Maestro 1.3 HL. The only models available in 1994 were the 1.3 petrol and 2.0 diesel Clubman - and they were Rover and not Austin!

DURR, before you all start on me, yes the Maestro 1.6 was indeed available with automatic transmission from October 1983 (on an A plate, then). Not, however as an HLS but rather as a dedicated AUTOMATIC model (just like the Metro had done a couple of years earlier) this was based on the HLS trim level and cost £6498 at launch. Simultaneously one could purchase a 1.6 VDP Auto from the same time, but that cost £7395 in Oct 1983. A true automatic HLS would be available from Oct 1984 (on a B plate with an S series engine) at an initial cost of £7423.
Sorry I forgot/overlooked this info. Back in Oct 1983 I was just starting out as a student at Loughbouough University. So there!

Not such an interesting purchase on its own, but with only 47,000 miles on it, I want the car this came out of!

I saw that advert last night. It was at £51 then! Bodywork looks almost immaculate ... ... except for the rust on the rear arch...
What colour is it, Monza Red?

Apart from the arches, that looks in great condition!
