I'm replacing the solenoids all round on M170. Firstly, I need to know which colour wires (out of the 5 provided - Green, Black, Brown, Blue & White) wire into where on the standard 4 wire set-up on the driver's door. Can anyone share their experiences with these motors? This is causing a lot of hassle at the moment as all doors work with replacement motors except the passenger front lock, and I reckon the main driver's side unit needs replacing. It's difficult to mount them without fouling the window lift at the front. A rather frustrating task!

Are these motors from maplin? If so I'll see if I can dig out the wiring codes tomorrow as I bought a full set.

As you have probably worked out two wires control the motor action (up and down) and the other 3 are to tell the control unit when someone is either turning the key in the lock or pressing the door button up or down.

Mine wouldn't fit in the same place as the original so I mounted them vertically slightly off set with the door button onto the bottom of the door. This is where a pic would be very very useful! That was the only place I could fit mine and get the windows to work without fouling.

If you are still stuck at the weekend let me know and I'll take some piccies of mine for you.

Pics would be great. I'll let you know how I get on with my further efforts tomorrow.

Well, I've not been eating or sleeping properly but I finally got it to work! It appears that the wire was not thick enough that supplys the passenger door (installed in 2001, of an evening). Also, the control unit was knackered on the driver's door and the passenger latch needed replacing due to too much play. Furthermore, the battery was running low so when I had actually fixed the c/l it wouldn't work properly anyway because there was no power! :banghead: It'd be embarrasing to admit how long I've been spending on the problem but I hope it'll work without taking the door card off now for at least the next 5 years. The passenger front motor was mounted by me cutting up the aftermarket mounts and bending them to imitate the shape of the factory mount - which took b:censored:y ages! I also needed to cable tie the hole on the aftermarket motor to make it smaller to stop the linkage slipping out.

Funny you should say that but I had similar problems. When I hooled up my kit to my van, the doors tried to unlock but failed as they wetrent' strong enough. When I used my alarm control unit to control the same motors they now work. (I'm guessign as it is feeding them a higher voltage/more current). When I tried using the two units together (so the central locking worked on the plip and the key) there was a loud pop of several fuses so I didn't try that option again!
