Having problems with it - sometimes it just wont open! Anyone else had this? or know what to do about it?
It's just opening it - I don't lock it simply because I've had problems - but today I couldn't open it at all, will have to get Mike to have a go tomorrow

Hi there,
There are two possible reasons for this problem.
1. Most likely is that the linkage inside the tailgate isn't operating correctly. If you take off the plastic trim panel and look inside you'll see how the linkage works and there should be a plastic/rubber knob on the bit that contacts with the plunger from the press-button. In the past, two of my Maestros have lacked these which has caused opening issues. You might also need to lubricate the linkage it's fairly obvious if there's omething missing and you'll most probably find it rattling around in the bottom of the tailgate!
2. If you have central locking then the solenoid might not be working properly so it might be remaining locked. Test this by unlocking with the key and then trying to open. (Obviously!)
Good luck

Thanks Simon - turned out it was just the contact plate that was loose! Simple to fix, once we got the thing open!

I found with my tailgate lock problem recently to check the plastic collar round the spigot that is attached to the car, the bit the lock "wraps around" to hold the door.
It has to be just the right size, ie not worn, chafed, cut or even worse missing. I made a replacement out of a steel strip about 10mm by 35 mm, hammered it round the spigot and the gate shuts as good as new, one weeny push!

Mine now opens and closes so sweetly that people think it hasn't closed properly till they try it.
