I've been doing a bit of touching up on the DLX and wondering how to apply the grey bottom half. What I mean is that the main colour (Good old Flame Red '89 on) requires a coat of lacquer. Wondering wether to apply it then spray grey over the top?

Does the grey bottom half also not require a lacquer coat too?

I think it is just a case of lots of careful masking either way.

Hurricane Grey and Tempest Grey were full gloss paint not clear over base like Flame Red, so no need to lacquer these. You could, however, lacquer over the top of the grey to save time and masking.

Just remember to polish the grey paint up before you cover it with lacquer to make sure it gives a good shine.

Thanks for the tips lads, been busy tidying the VP at the moment, going off at a tangent, any good tips on removing old underseal?

I think I just need to add a quick qualification there for those who may misunderstand...I'm sure you mean "polish up" with such as a fine-grade w&d, not literally apply polish ;)

Heat gun and a scraper is perfect for removing underseal, although I did the underside of my car with white spirit last year and lots of old rags. Takes loads of effort doing the latter...

Yes sorry polish as in remove the surface of the paint rather than wax which applies a further coating to the paint surface.

If you are going back to bear metal then a wire brush on the end of a drill or even better a wire brush on the end of an angle grinder. That cuts through underseal and paint in no time flat.
