What's the correct sequence of events as the engine warms up. I suppose the idle speed should drop, temp. gauge should rise, all hoses should fill up with warm water, but if it's just idling would you expect cooling fan to come on. Also are there specific numbers for such things as idle speed. Anything else?
(2.0 EFi engine specifically).
Thanks.

Yes as you said various things should start to happen

The idle speed should slow down fron 1500-2000rpm when cold toward 750rpm ish when warmed up

The heater should start to blow hot air before the radiator hoses get warm (if not then the thermostat may be stuck open)

The needle should move from cold to the middle

If left idling for long enough the radiator fan should come on to prevent the car from overheating (this should happen when the gauge reads above half but before it reaches the red!)
