hi graham
until your petrol warning light comes on i wouldnt worry.
try to keep her above 1/4 of a tank because it reduces the chances of any crap being draged into the engine from the petrol tank. ps i love the colour you intend to spray your car.
looking at an earlier thread you made, do you always start your car from cold without the choke with your foot flat on the floor?

Thanks.. And Thanks..
Erm.
Unless i cant get in , properly. Like earlia i had 24v running through it as 12v boost wasnt enough... i put chock on 1st bit , but it runs just the same with either one.. (still about 5>10 turning over before fireing up .. )

It wants a good tune, a bloomin good run to clear it out (gentle driving, though) and some fresh petrol wouldn't go amiss either. Experience tells me that no car of this age will start on the first turn of the starter motor, although I'm sure there are exceptions...
When the needle is on the EMPTY line and the warning light comes on there is still about 2 gallons left, giving you plenty of time to fill up.
I wouldn't suggest you try running 24v through it though... And boosting the battery isn't going to help it start any quicker...

The fuel gauge takes a long time to move up the scale also and you have to have the igniton turned on to make the gauge work.
Also if you've been feeding it 24volts then you may well have killed it. DON'T do it.
Yes you can fit a dash with a rev counter. It is simple to do and you'll also probably get a low fuel light at the same time.
If you are having problems starting the car then get it re-tuned but first learn how it should be started. I.e. pull choke out, turn key wait for it to start. wait for a few seconds then push choke about half way in. When the engine warms up a bit then you can push the choke fulley in, (experience will tell you when you can do this). Trying to start the car without the choke is VERY difficult as Race car Chris and I can vouch for (his race car has no choke and is a sod to start).
Try putting some more fuel in and see if the needle rises. If not, check the connectors on the sender on the fuel tank are clean and connected still. If it still does not work, we shall have to try a process of elimination. It could be a stuck or dead sender. I know a metro that got stuck on 1/4 of a tank before. A good tap with a hammer with a full tank got it working again. Mind you it had been sat with 1/4 of a tank of fuel in it for about 3 months!

This article in the Upgrades and Custimisation section (must remember to put it in the FAQ) http://www.maestro.org.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=3284 lets you know how to put a rev counter in.

Thanks every one ecle

Fitting a rev counter is now in the FAQ Electrical section.
On 'our cars', each 'quarter tank' calibration on the fuel gauge is about 10 litres, so when the gauge is pointing to the 'E' and is on the bottom line the tank still has around 10 litres in (50 litre tank). Your picture shows a few litres left, I reckon ;) (I'll get me coat  ). Running your tank this low can cause bits of rust and other muck to be sucked through to the carburettor (and then possibly the engine, if it doesn't mess the carb up first) though, so it's not recommended.
One of the first things I do to a car that's new to me is fit an inline fuel filter in the rubber pipe between the metal pipe from the fuel tank and the fuel pump (note, Injection cars already have a larger, finer fuel filter with a metal casing, that needs changing every few years, so don't need this mod - though the filter blocking can cause running problems). It horrifies me how mucky a clean fuel filter gets in a few months' use - especially the bits of rust... :fim:
