View Full Version : Pedal Rubbers
I bought a new genuine set of pedal rubbers for the van some months ago now, fitted them then and there and all has been ok since, however more and more recently I have found myself putting the clutch rubber back on. The brake has never come off, but the clutch is persistant, every time i put it back on, its off again by the end of the day! Has anyone got any advice on getting them to stay on, otherwise the glue will have to come out!!
Cheers, Rich

i'd just glue it personally. we put a new set of pedal rubbers on an old a reg base model maestro years ago and the same thing always happened.

As ben says , Just add some glue..
I didnt know until the other day that a split brake peadle rubber is an mot test failure!

It isn't unless the split impedes prake pedal operation. You can heave it totally missing and it should still pass.
As said I'd simply apply some silicone sealant around the retaining lip so that it should stay in place but you can still get it off in future should you need to.
It must be a van trait to as mine ocassionally comes loose on the bottom which makes the pedal feel weird. It only happens once every couple of months though so I can live with it!
Looks like its silicone time, hadn't considered that one, I had thought with glue, if I had to take it off, it would leave a load of old stuck on rubber there which wouldnt be easy to get off!
These vans do have there there traits ETV, like the oil pressure light that has now stopped working, and the in active seal on the diesel cap which results in a pattern of sprayed fuel down the side from the filler cap! Its all good fun!

Funny you should mention that my oil pressure light has just started to go on the blink. I've traced it to a loose spade connector on the switch but when I get round to fixing it is anyones guess.
I had the oil pressure switch problem on the DLX too. Going down the motorway and the oil light came on and then flickered! Pulled over in a cold sweat, oil level ok. Gave it some rev in car park and light didn't come on. Got home, bought a new pressure switch, got car on the jacks to find the spad connector hanging off. A bit of manipulation with pliers and all was fine again.

At least your problem was easy. My original Diesel engine topped itself when the oil pump failed, (either the drive sheared or something got stuck under the pressure relief valve), but the oil light wouldn't go out no matter what I did so I junked the engine for TD power :D

Having no pedal rubber would be a failure because there is nothing to stop your foot sliding off the smooth metal face of the pedal.
Going off topic I know but while oil lights are mentioned, my oil light issues have included that same problem Dean. On leaving Maria's house after a meeting, last year I think it was now, Dan (ETV) noticed that it took a while for my oil pressure light to go out, it had been playing up for a while and I had ignored it. However as if tempting fate by saying "thats how my vans engine died.....", on the return trip from Marias, while on the motorway, poodleing at 65-70mph oil light starts flickering, in a cold sweat I pull over in the dark and call the AA (well i've been a member for years and never used it for me). Matey turned up, he actually said "there usually pretty good these are" refering to the van. Had a look, oil in there up to the max level, no obvious problems or leaks, gave it a good rev, light eventually went out. I then drove to the next services, with him following, light was flickering again, so he put a new spade connector on, and it still was flickering, but sometimes went out with a good rev. In the end I drove home on it, satisfied there was oil in there, and by the time I got to the A34 it was out and was behaving again.
I put a new pressure switch on, and every thing was then fine. Then a month or so later, I noticed it was on in the morning for the first start, then out for the rest of the day. When I came to start it agter its first journey, the light wouldn't come on. As if there was a constant pressure there, which went overnight, as the nect morning the light would come on again. Now it just won't come on at all, so its on the very long "to do" list. I will probably have a look during the next service. I at least I am not the only one who has oil light problems though!
