How much work/cost is replacing a sill? ie getting someone to do it.
I'm told the seats etc will need to be removed, and I can do that sort of thing myself of course but not the actual welding.
Or is it a how long piece of string type question?
I'm suspecting a complete sill replacement is required although I think it has a new (metal) wheel arch at the rear.

Thanks.

Dunno why you'd need to remove the seats as you can do it with them in if you are careful.

If the rust is just on the outer sloping bit that faces the road then a cover sill can be fitted which is very easy (takes a couple of hours to do + prep and painting) A full sill is a bit more involved. Have you got any pics of the problem (holes?). As usual the largest proportion of the time is in the preparation - removal of old sill and painting it up afterwards. The welding should take about an hour at a guess.

No photos as yet, but I'm told complete inner and outer sill required. Hope to have the car back home soon, currently it's far away.

Attached 2 photos, apparently the blue crayon markings indicate where someone reckoned it needed welding?
Second one not too useful but it's me pulling the outer sill away, which I suppose is not supposed to happen.
My mechanic was rather surprised it has 11 mths MOT left ...

Thanks - is the full sill panel inner and outer, or just one of them?
I don't have a quote, as for various reasons it's rather complicated as to who when and where, sigh, but the best outcome is getting it done by a friend for little more than cost of parts.
I think I was told that the panel was the outer bit, and you'd get a sheet of metal for the inner bit, but as my head is full of cold and fever I've only vague memories of that conversation

Yes thats right. Inner sill can be patched/repaired with sheet metal and then an outer sill welded on. A skin sill would do but a full sill would be better.

Spare wheel - Whys it not in the boot?

Because it's the nearside-rear wheel, and that's the wheelarch.
